AEW: It’s Way Too Soon To Break Up Swerve Strickland and Keith Lee

One of the most popular rising teams in AEW was Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland. However, AEW served us all on Dynamite and it seems like the exciting team could already be over and not in the way they wanted.

While everybody tuned into Dynamite with hopes to see an entertaining casino battle royal, it seems that AEW had more plans than just crowning a challenger for Jon Moxley. During the match, Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland entered the catch under the same suit as some other teams did in the match. However, when Swerve and Lee were starting to work well together in the match, Swerve saw his opportunity and eliminated his partner from the match. While they both knew that it would be every man for themself, Keith Lee didn’t look happy after being eliminated.

You could see Keith Lee seething while Swerve had a big smile on his face. Swerve went on to make it to the final six men in the match picking up another big elimination of Darby Allin. While Kyle O’Reilly shocked many AEW fans by winning, many fans were talking about the swerves thrown by Strickland. Swerve eliminated two babyfaces from the match and his “partner” is far from pleased with him. It would seem that their short-lived team is already over and I don’t think I am alone in thinking that it is a real shame and loss if AEW is already pulling the plug on the team.

We have seen in the past that Keith Lee has everything it takes to be the biggest deal in a company. He arrived in NXT and took the company by storm before winning the NXT Championship. There is no doubt that All Elite Wrestling would love to push Lee as a singles star down the line but there was something special about him teaming with Swerve Strickland. While Swerve didn’t reach the top of NXT, Swerve showed out every week and became a good North American Champion and could have been much more until his untimely release stopped him.

AEW fans were hyped around the world when both Lee and Strickland arrived in AEW. Like myself, I am sure the fans are expecting the two men to do big things in the company. However, they were just in an AEW Tag Team Championship match at Double or Nothing and many fans believed they could have dethroned The Jurassic Express. The size, power, and speed of Keith Lee meshed so well with the speed, finesse, and swagger of Swerve Strickland. They looked like they could have been an unstoppable team. That is unless they stopped themselves before they even got started.

While there is still hope in the air that Swerve will be able to explain his actions to Keith Lee and work things out, I have a gut feeling that isn’t what we are going to be seeing. Keith Lee isn’t going to take Swerve costing him a shot at potentially becoming the interim AEW World Championship lightly. The way that Keith was looking on Dynamite after being eliminated, he looks like he is just waiting to explode and I would really hate to be Swerve Strickland come the next time they see each other. But perhaps AEW could simply “swerve” us again.

It was Swerve Strickland that made the fans turn their heads by eliminating two of his “friends” from the battle royal. Many are expecting that Strickland will soon be going right back to being the heel that we are used to. However, if AEW wants to do something to really swerve the fans and give us a shock, why not make it Keith Lee that turns heel?  It would be something fresh for the company moving forward. Although, my high hope is the swerve will be that everything will be okay and we can go back to hoping to see Swerve and Lee as AEW Tag Team Champions.
