AEW Rampage: Mayhem before Forbidden Door
With Forbidden Door just 48 hours away, AEW Rampage served up a little more hype.
The show opened with a pay-per-view quality match between Rey Fenix and Andrade El Idolo. On a media call Friday afternoon, Tony Khan confirmed neither men were allowed to compete at Forbidden Door due to “wrestling politics” (i.e.-CMLL and AAA). Andrade’s former tag team partner, RUSH, made his presence known by costing Fenix the match. Afterwards, RUSH and El Idolo donned La Faccion Ingobernable shirts.
In a backstage promo, Eddie Kingston told Chris Jericho that he wants to taste his blood. This will be important later.
HOOK faced The DKC to move to 10-0. The DKC is a student at NJPW’s LA Dojo. He’ll be joining fellow LA Dojo members Yuya Uemura, Kevin Knight, and Alex Coughlin on The Buy In. Two more matches were added to the pre-show: The Factory vs. Hiroki Goto and YOSHI-HASHI and Swerve in Our Glory vs. El Desperado and Kanemaru.
The main event saw Jeff Cobb face Cash Wheeler. Both men will be part of a triple-threat tag team match with a Winner Take All stipulation. Wheeler’s ROH Tag Team Championship and Cobb’s IWGP Tag Team Titles will be on the line. Roppongi Vice was screwed out of proper match against FTR by United Empire a few weeks ago and will be the third team in the match.
Cobb won with a Tour of the Islands. That’s when all hell broke loose. United Empire, Dax Harwood, and Best Friends had a brawl all over the place. Kingston used this distraction for a sneak attack on Jericho, who was at commentary. Kingston grabbed a pen and began stabbing his nemesis with it. He also began biting him. The pair brawled throughout the arena.
The show went off the air with Excalibur yelling that Kingston “hates Jericho” and Taz telling him there were no more pens.
The end of show was chaotic, but fun. Both Dynamite and Rampage ended with brawls between factions. It will make for an interesting show.
Forbidden Door is this Sunday, June 26, at 8 PM ET. In the US, it’s available on Bleacher/Report and InDemand from cable and satellite providers. In Canada, it’s available on FITE TV and PPV.com. The Buy In begins at 7 PM ET on Bleacher/Report and YouTube.
