Claudio Castagnoli made his AEW debut at AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door as Zack Sabre Jr.’s mystery opponent. Claudio would defeat the young technician in a great match. Claudio drew a monster pop when he came out to the ring. The 41-year-old left the WWE In February and became the hottest free agent on the market.

Castagnoli is one of the best wrestlers on the planet and has the chance to prove that in AEW. Claudio’s landing in AEW has created endless dream matches that fans thought couldn’t happen. In this article, I will be discussing the five AEW matches Castagnoli must have before the end of the year.

Five Claudio matches we need to see in AEW by the end of 2022

5. PAC

Pac and Claudio are no strangers to each other, having faced each other in the old black and gold version of NXT. Castagnoli and the new version of PAC could have an intense rivalry that could go on for months in AEW. Pac is AEW’s first All-Atlantic Champion and should be the one that makes that championship the essential title in the company.

Pac has the chance to elevate this championship higher than the TNT championship, and matches with Claudio could do that. The two would perform an absolute clinic of uppercuts, kicks, and unbelievable athleticism. Pac feuding with Claudio would be the perfect example of how WWE has the talent to put on great matches but doesn’t give them the right amount to shine.

4. Wardlow

AEW is setting Wardlow up to become the company’s top babyface, and while Claudio is a great babyface, he would be an even better heel opponent for Wardlow. A match between these two would be interesting because you would have the veteran wrestler still trying to prove he can be a world champion against the person people are saying will be AEW’s biggest homegrown talent.

Wardlow has had some excellent matches in AEW, but if AEW truly wants fans to get behind Wardlow before that big championship push, then a match with Claudio can help. Claudio can have an excellent match for anybody, so why not help the younger talent that AEW is already pushing as the next big star.

3. MJF

MJF has been a hot topic in professional wrestling because of his real-life issues with AEW. Claudio would be the perfect opponent for MJF to go against because of his no-time for games approach to wrestling. A match with Claudio would also allow fans to see that when he’s focused, MJF is a pretty good wrestler himself. AEW could build a storyline around MJF being mad that AEW signed another former WWE talent and how that is taking the spotlight from the original AEW talent.

2. Bryan Danielson

Bryan Danielson versus Claudio is a match that should happen because they have a history together. The two great wrestlers have worked with each other in PWG, ROH, and WWE. A match between the two stars isn’t a new match-up that fans haven’t seen, but it is an excellent opportunity for new fans to see how physical a match between the two can be. Bryan Danielson has been on a mission since coming to AEW to prove he’s the most outstanding wrestler of all time. A 39-minute match with Claudio could quickly become a match-of-the-year candidate if AEW wanted to go that route.

1. Kenny Omega

Kenny Omega is widely regarded as the best wrestler in professional wrestling today. Kenny Omega is the top dog in AEW and is one of NJPW’s most significant contributors to their massive boost in popularity in the 2010s. A match between Kenny Omega and Claudio would be an intense and fast-paced showcase of two wrestlers who love to wrestle. If AEW wants Kenny to stay their top dog, having him feud with Claudio would allow both wrestlers to push themselves like never before. When it comes to great wrestlers who have never been world champions, Claudio is at the top of that list. Now that Claudio is in a company that puts its wrestling first, he should be able to shine and finally be able to show fans that he is world championship material. Kenny Omega and Claudio is the wrestling match that AEW should slowly start building towards because it will be a dream match that wrestling fans will want to pay to see.
