Shawn Michaels is arguably the most excellent in-ring performer in the history of professional wrestling and not just the WWE. Michaels has wrestled countless match-of-the-year caliber matches and has never disappointed inside of the ring. Michaels had a great run in the 90s, but his run from 2002-2010 might have been better than his original run because the company’ had better in-ring performers by then. In this article, I will discuss the five best matches of Shawn Michaels’s career.

5. Shawn Michaels Vs. Bret Hart (WrestleMania XII)

The boyhood dream came true at WrestleMania 12 when HBK won his first WWE championship by defeating Bret Hart in a legendary 60-minute Iron man match. The history between these two wrestlers inside and outside the ring is well documented, but when it came to be professional in front of the fans, they made sure to deliver a great WrestleMania main event. The two would wrestle for an hour without a pinfall or submission, forcing them to go to an overtime period, leading to HBK picking up the victory and his first reign with the WWE championship.

4. Shawn Michaels Vs. Razor Ramon (WrestleMania X)

This match is important because this is the first time that Michaels wrestles for a singles championship at a WrestleMania. Michaels and Razor Ramon both had something to prove inside the ring.

The storytelling in this match was some of the best WWE had ever told because it started in the fall of 1993 when WWE president, Jack Tunney, stripped HBK of the Intercontinental championship due to him not defending it often enough. Razor would win the championship belt in a battle royal, but HBK decided not to acknowledge he lost the championship, and there were two Intercontinental championships on Raw at this time.

The WrestleMania X ladder match had both championships hanging above the ring, with the winner being declared the true IC champion. Razor would defeat HBK in the match, but both men would be winners when it comes to putting on a memorable performance that is still talked about today.

3. Shawn Michaels vs. Triple H – Summer Slam 2002

When wrestling fans talk about the greatest comeback in wrestling matches, many fans choose this match because of the storytelling that leads to this match. Michaels went four years from wrestling and would return to enter a feud with his best friend Triple H. The match would be unsanctioned, and the live crowd was super-hot for this match from start to finish and went on for 30 minutes. The match would have a lot of back-and-forth action, one of the most drama-filled matches in the history of WWE. The match would include everything a wrestling fan loves, including blood, weapons, and broken tables. This match was an all-out war between two of the greatest WWE wrestlers. HBK would take the win here when he would reverse the pedigree into a bridging pin for the win.

2. Shawn Michaels vs. Kurt Angle – WrestleMania 21

When it comes to first-time matches in 2022, the WWE doesn’t capitalize on the chance of putting together first-time matches as they should.

This was a fantastic match between two of the most gifted wrestlers to lace up their boots. HBK and Kurt match was an actual wrestling dream match that fans only could do back when the WWE was making the Smackdown Vs. Raw video games. This match was filled with drama and more than a dozen near falls, several Angle slams, suplexes, and a Sweet Chin Music that nearly took Kurt’s teeth out of his mouth. In the end, Kurt would win this WrestleMania dream match by submission.

1. Shawn Michaels vs. The Undertaker WrestleMania XXV

When it comes to HBK and The Undertaker, they are two of the most loved WWE wrestlers of all time. This match is considered by many to be the most excellent wrestling match of all time. The Two legends put on a 5-star classic in 1997 in the first-ever Hell in a Cell match, but this match was different because it was a match to see who was the best wrestler. Shawn Michaels was the first wrestler who made fans believe that Undertaker’s Wrestlemania streak would be broken because of how close the matchup ended up. The two legends kicked out of each other’s finishing moves more than once, with perfect exchanges and reversals everywhere.

This match would go on to win several matches of the year awards and even had a sequel that would lead to Shawn Michael’s final WWE match.
