AEW Rampage: CM Punk hints at breaking his foot again
This past Wednesday on AEW Dynamite, Jon Moxley beat CM Punk to become the AEW World Champion. The shocking part was that it took under three-and-a-half minutes to do it.
During the match, Punk seemed to injure his surgically repaired foot when he kicked Moxley in the back of the head. The interim champion took advantage and showed no mercy. He defeated Punk quickly to become a two-time champion.
Punk potentially breaks his foot again in AEW title match
On Rampage, it was advertised that fans would hear from Punk. What actually aired was a clip that was under a minute long. It began with a recap of Wednesday’s shocking twist (no pun intended). Cameras followed Punk to the the trainer’s room. Someone (likely Doc Sampson) asked, “did anything pop or it just…just went?” Punk shakes his head “no” as the question is asked.
Biting on his thumb, Punk replied, “no, it didn’t, it didn’t, uh, it didn’t feel like anything. It felt like it just went out. But that’s not good because when I originally broke it, I didn’t feel anything. I don’t know what that means.” The clip ends with Punk laying back on the exam table.
As of now, it’s being reported that the Punk vs. Mox rematch is scheduled to main event ALL OUT on Sunday, September 4th. Of course, card is subject to change. There should be more information about the extent of Punk’s foot injury in the coming days. “The Second City Saint” no doubt wants to get a rematch at not only AEW’s biggest pay-per-view of the year, but in his hometown of Chicago.
The injury just adds to an already tense situation between Moxley and Punk. The two were at each other’s throat on Dynamite two weeks ago. So much so, their title match was moved up to this week’s show from ALL OUT. Beyond this match, Punk has been the topic of conversation because of some alleged situations backstage over the last few months. All of this makes for a very intriguing potential main event.
