AEW and WWE news to watch for the week of September 25
Professional moves along for another week. Fans will tune in to watch WWE and AEW, with their eyes on big angles that continue to develop on television and behind the scenes. Heading into a new week, these are three storylines that fans should keep a close eye on for both promotions.
Keep following the white rabbit
WWE viewers tuned in on Friday, September 23 looking closely for any clues about the white rabbit. Those clues came during a Hit Row skit that pushed fans to a game that hinted at the “next” moment to come on Monday Night Raw. Expectations were for the final reveal to happen but that was not the case. With much speculation around whether this is Bray Wyatt, fans are hoping for his big return to the promotion. This is perhaps the biggest storyline to watch within the WWE, as no one for certain knows what the outcome may be. Wyatt coming back to WWE would be a massive get for Triple H who continues to pick up wins since taking over creative and talent relations.
What is Jade Cargill’s storyline?
Jade Cargill remains a dominant champion, as she carries the TBS title well over her shoulder. As she continues to rack up wins, she and everybody involved with her look fantastic in their positions. But what is the end game? The one thing that Cargill has lacked is a story to get and keep fans invested. The one moment it seemed like that was coming together as Athena joined AEW and the two were pitted against each other. That cultivated in a 4-minute match on All Out, that’s it.
So, what story is AEW trying to tell with Cargill? Is it the undefeated streak as she surges to 50-0? Should fans be invested in an undefeated streak as her opponents are seemingly picked randomly without any investment of their own? This is a challenge that AEW must fix and a situation that fans should keep an eye on in the future.
Extreme Rules card must come together
WWE Extreme Rules is scheduled for Saturday, October 8. With less than two weeks until the PPV, there’s still a lot of the card that needs to take shape. Currently, only three matches are announced, but each one has a stipulation tied to it, which is a switch from recent shows under Vince McMahon’s leadership. Fans can expect that Roman Reigns will not be at this event, as the “Tribal Chief” works on what many consider a “reduced” schedule.
Right now, Liv Morgan will defend her title against Ronda Rousey. Drew McIntyre and Karrion Kross will battle in a strap match. Matt Riddle will take on Seth Rollins in what will be the first Fight Pit match on the main roster. Plus, Bianca Belair is expected to defend her title against Bayley. It will be interesting to see if WWE sticks to a shorter, five-match card which would be positive for everyone involved. That fifth match could potentially be a no-disqualification match between Sheamus and Gunther.
