WWE must deliver on the mystery names for the women’s WarGames match
The build to WWE Survivor Series WarGames has picked up, with the foundation of both women’s teams set. On one side, Bayley, IYO Sky, Dakota Kai, and Nikki Cross are ready to go to battle against the group Bianca Belair, Alexa Bliss, and Asuka. However, all eyes are on the three mystery names to be added to this event. Everyone is looking for Sasha Banks and Naomi to take the last two slots on Belair’s team. While those two are at the top of the wish list, regardless of who fills those roles WWE must take caution with how this is booked and announced.
One of two things must happen for this match to be a success. The three mystery additions to this match need to be announced in advance to the PLE to manage expectations. Fans have their eyes set on every move that Sasha Banks and Naomi make, with many hoping that this is the spot where they return to in-ring action. Without any concrete news about their return in place, speculation continues to run wild. If WWE allows that anticipation to build and cannot deliver on two of the biggest stars in women’s wrestling, that moment will be a massive letdown for a division that is already struggling to gain momentum.
Becky Lynch and potentially Trish Stratus are the two women that could fit into this role and not get an immediate backlash. While the returns of Mia Yim, Emma, and eventually Sarah Logan add depth to the group, the fan reactions were tepid at best for Yim and Emma. WWE cannot allow two other women to suffer through a failed start to their booking in such a way.
The other option is for WWE to announce these three women well in advance. Sixteen days remain before Survivor Series WarGames and that is ample time to build to this match by announcing all the parties involved. If Mia Yim and Rhea Ripley are going to join the fray, that’s fine – announce it in advance. If Charlotte Flair is going to return to the side with Bayley, that’s great – but again announce it beforehand to manage fans’ expectations.
In the past, WWE leadership seemed to get a kick out of letting fans down on their wishes, and that is something Triple H must change. If Sasha Banks and Naomi are not going to walk through the door to enter the WarGames cage at Survivor Series, their best bet is to announce everyone involved and make sure there is an engaging storyline leading up to that match. Under-delivering the surprises has the potential to hurt everyone involved in the match and the division.
