Carmelo Hayes vs Bron Breakker is the big feud WWE NXT needs
WWE NXT has gone through its third “re-brand” in recent months. The debate around whether the show is “good” or not is highly subjective and based completely on the person asked. But there’s one thing that many people would agree upon. That point is that the top of the card needs a massive feud for Bron Breakker and that should come in the form of former NXT North American champion, Carmelo Hayes.
At 25 and 28 years of age respectively, Breakker and Hayes are the future of WWE programming. These two individuals can be linked together as opposing forces that can carry the promotion through the next generation. John Cena had Randy Orton. Steve Austin had The Rock. Fans can think of multiple other feuds that define the height of their enjoyment of watching professional wrestling. Breakker versus Hayes has the potential to be such a feud for the next generation of fans.
Within NXT, Hayes and Breakker have run through nearly all the foils sent their way. Their reigns include victories over the likes of Pete Dunne, Johnny Gargano, Cameron Grimes, Gunther, Dolph Ziggler, Santos Escobar, and many others. They’ve defeated a “who’s who” among their peers on the roster – both within NXT and some from the main roster. WWE has thrown everything at them with the goal of keeping the two men away from each other. Now, is the time to give this match to the fans.
Hayes has dropped the NXT North American title to Wes Lee. Lee is a budding fan favorite that should have a strong run with the title. The verdict is still out on how high up the card Lee will go, but he can certainly fulfill the obligation of being a workers’ champion with that title. Hayes is focused on getting that belt back, but he should turn his attention toward the title that sits at the top of the show.
Breakker recently defeated Von Wagner, and to be frank, no one needs to see Wagner in the title picture again. The same could be said for JD McDonagh, as he’s had multiple shots at the title already.
Breakker versus Hayes is the type of match that could headline a major NXT show if one is planned for WrestleMania weekend. NXT Deadl1ne is scheduled for December 10 and this would also be a perfect match for both men. Allow them to have that big moment and then introduce them to the main roster via the Royal Rumble a few weeks later.
At some point, Breakker and Hayes will meet in a big-money match on the main roster. But before that point is reached, WWE should book them in a feud over the WWE NXT Championship. Set the stage for what’s to come. And now is the perfect time to set the seeds for what will become the future of the promotion.
