Becky Lynch vs Bianca Belair is the 2022 Daily DDT Women’s Match of the Year
Becky Lynch and Bianca Belair were joined at the hip in 2022 and they put on a spectacle at WrestleMania 38.
2022 was filled with excellent professional wrestling. Promotions from around the world featured some of the best talent available. Women’s wrestling continued to make strides and while the space isn’t filled with the level of equity that fans would want, there was still exceptional wrestling to recognize from 2022. The Daily DDT team joined together to vote on the top women’s matches of 2022 and Bianca Belair versus Becky Lynch at WrestleMania 38 came out as the top choice.
2022 was truly the crowning moment for Bianca Belair. Even though she had reached champion status before, the run she went on last year put the cap on that statement. Picking up the victory over Lynch at Mania was the moment that she needed, especially with how the company booked her losing the championship at SummerSlam in the months prior.
From the entrances through the final moments of the match, Lynch and Belair delivered on a classic that fans would remember. Lynch looked like a psychotic supervillain which was exactly how “Big Time” Becky Lynch was meant to appear to fans. Then there was Belair being played out via the marching band that truly set these entrances apart. She was already booked like a superstar and it was even more representative in this moment.

The action in the ring added to the moment. By this point, Belair and Lynch had faced off multiple times and were well aware of each other as competitors. They played off that familiarity by mixing up their move set to keep each other guessing – countering move after move. The finishing sequence to get to the KOD was exceptional and the fans were on their feet to count the final pinfall.
Belair went on to have an important 2022, as she became the central face of women’s wrestling in WWE. She’s one of the most important individuals on the roster and her fan base continues to support her. As she begins to venture off into other experiences, it will be interesting to see what remains of her presence in WWE. But looking back, she and Lynch deserve recognition for what they achieved at Mania.
Becky Lynch versus Bianca Belair earned the accolade of the top women’s match in all of 2022, and solidified Belair’s claim to being known as “Ms. WrestleMania.”
