AEW Rampage: Women’s Outsiders Leave Their Mark

On Friday night’s episode of AEW: Rampage, Toni Storm and Saraya took on the Renegade Twins. They mostly dominated their five-minute match.

After the match was over, they each had a can of bright green spray paint. While their opponents were laid out, the women spray painted an “L” on the stomach of the twins. Saraya then made an “L” with her fingers in front of her forehead (*cue “All Star” by Smash Mouth*)

While the green spray paint is something that’s currently being done in IMPACT Wrestling, this was a very clear nod to The Outsiders/nWo. Storm and Saraya see themselves as outsiders in the women’s division, even though Storm is a former AEW Women’s World Champion. As Excalibur pointed out on commentary, these two were friends long before stepping foot in AEW. They have a bond that predates what they’re doing now.

On Dynamite, the women attacked Britt Baker backstage. This comes after an attack on Willow Nightingale the week prior. Some have pointed out that there is likely a third person to fill out the Women’s nWo stable. Baker has questioned where Ruby Soho’s loyalties lie (even though Soho already said that she found a home in AEW and seemed to be siding with the Originals).

Soho, of course, spent several years in WWE before signing with AEW. After Baker was attacked, Soho came to check on her. The former champion noted that “The Runaway” was nowhere to be found and implied that she was in on the attack. Assuming Soho is being truthful and is aligning with the Originals, then who else would be with The Outsiders?

Perhaps another friend from the WWE and the newly free Mercedes Moné will join them? Saraya seemed to be hinting at her friend being her mystery partner last month, but it ended up being Storm. “The Blueprint” has her hands full with KAIRI in a few weeks at NJPW’s Battle of the Valley and is locked in to several dates with NJPW and STARDOM. However, if NJPW wanted her first post-WWE match, she could potentially show up in AEW anytime after that.

Next. AEW Blood & Guts match must focus on the women. dark

If it’s not Moné, Serena Deeb, Athena, Mercedes Martinez, or Tay Melo that could also fit the bill of Outsider. Until then, there’s no doubt that Storm and Saraya have more up their sleeve as they look to take down the rest of the women’s division and there’s several women who could take up their cause.
