GUNTHER vs Brock Lesnar would be one of the biggest WWE matches of 2023

Gunther is a force in the WWE and that unstoppable force should run into Brock Lesnar at some point in 2023. 

The Royal Rumble allows itself to be the starting point for big “moments” that WWE can leverage in the future. One such moment occurred in the 2023 edition of the match when Brock Lesnar and Gunther faced off in the middle of the ring. Lesnar is a big attraction in professional wrestling, and fans clamored to see him do something new instead of battling Roman Reigns. Heading into the next phase of dream matches, Lesnar versus Gunther would be a huge contest to go down in 2023.

Gunther walked out of the 2023 Royal Rumble with a massive wave of momentum. He stood in the ring for a record-setting, one hour and eleven minutes while picking up five eliminations along the way. The fans stood on their feet when Lesnar’s rampage ended with him facing down Gunther. Both men smiled and engaged in a brief back-and-forth before the rest of the action picked up.

The speculation around WrestleMania 39 continues to pick up. Two matches are planned, with a third taking shape after the WWE Elimination Chamber in a few days. Gunther is the reigning WWE Intercontinental Champion, and it looks like his next challengers will come in the way of Drew McIntyre and Sheamus. He tossed them both over the top at the same time, and the pairing of McIntyre and Sheamus always delivers “banger after banger.” This could be the path to getting that championship off Gunther’s waist and creating a career-defining moment for Sheamus.

But what could come next? This is where a build to an angle between Gunther and Lesnar could come into play. SummerSlam is a marquee event each year and WWE would have a huge matchup on the card if these two are placed across from each other. Gunther knows that and went as far to say so during an episode of the Rob Brown Show.

“I’ve been portrayed as the end boss in wrestling for a lot of guys, but I think Brock could be my end boss,” Gunther said during the interview. “I really hope that match goes down at some point.”

The end boss fighting the bigger end boss is all this match needs to be one of the biggest showcases that could come in 2023. Lesnar’s a megastar in combat sports, and still has value to the WWE. But it is still time for the WWE to begin to build new attractions off the strength of Lesnar’s name. That situation may be in the cards for Bobby Lashley, and it certainly should be in those same cards for Gunther.

WWE struggled to book NXT call-ups well throughout much of the last few years. Gunther is one of the few exceptions to the rule. He’s been booked as a dominant force and that booking should carry him to a showdown with Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam 2023.
