AEW Rampage: Chaos after the main event
Friday’s episode of AEW: Rampage was headlined by Orange Cassidy defending his All-Atlantic Championship against Lee Moriarty.
Cassidy was accompanied by Danhausen (who did not stare at Mark Henry this week) while Moriarty was flanked by Stokely Hathaway, who was wearing a cast, courtesy of HOOK. Cassidy and Moriarty had a great match with TAIGASTYLE in full effect.
We also learned that a cast can deflect a curse.
Even though Moriarty brought everything he had in his first AEW main event, it wasn’t enough to dethrone the champ. There was no time to celebrate, however, as “BREE WOO! BREE WOO!” blared over the speakers.
Instead of it being Jeff Jarrett, it was Satnam Singh standing at the top of the ramp, staring at Cassidy. Of course, he was just a distraction as Jarrett, Sonjay Dutt, and Jay Lethal entered the ring from behind. Lethal still has Paul Walter Hauser’s Golden Globe and used it on Cassidy and Danhausen.
Best Friends attempted to help their friends, but Singh caught Trent Beretta on the way down the ramp. He tossed Beretta into the ring and Lethal met him with the Golden Globe. As all four men were laid out in the ring, The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn came to the rescue. The bad guys scattered and ran away.
Following the show, Tony Khan announced an eight-man match for AEW Dynamite. Cassidy, The Acclaimed, and Gunn will take on Jarrett, Singh, Dutt, and Lethal in Laredo, Texas.
Gunn showed this past Wednesday that his loyalties lay with Max Caster and Anthony Bowens. He was by their side on Friday and will be in the ring with them next week. It seems they are moving The Acclaimed on to another story for now, but perhaps The Acclaimed will get a rematch for the tag team titles sooner rather than later. Cassidy’s next opponent for his title may lie in one of the four men he’s facing on Dynamite.
