AEW Dynamite: Top Flight Wins and Miro Returns
AEW: Dynamite is back this Wednesday and will be broadcast live on TBS from Phoenix as the promotion makes its Arizona debut.
After giving its fans a solid month of outstanding in-ring action, last week’s Dynamite was unable to deliver the same quality, and this week’s show looks a bit less than stellar as well, with some of the promotion’s big names booked against talent in which the outcome is in very little doubt.
That said, Tony Khan is set to make an important announcement, the All-Atlantic Championship is on the line in a very intriguing matchup, and one tag team will punch their ticket to Revolution, where they will get a shot at the AEW World Tag Team Championship.
Let’s look at the announced matches and segments for AEW Dynamite and what to expect from each.
Tony Khan’s important announcement
It has been a while since Tony Khan declared that he has an important announcement. But this Wednesday, we will get the latest installment of Khan’s tease in an attempt to drive up viewership.
This announcement could be a litany of things. With big-name free agents such as Mercedes Moné and Jay White on the market, it is possible Khan signed one of them to a contract. It is also possible a current AEW star may be coming back or getting a contract extension, such as CM Punk or FTR.
But the most likely scenario is that this will be a resolution to the Ring of Honor Tag Team Title picture. The tragic passing of Jay Briscoe, one-half of the ROH Tag Team Champions in late January, has left a question mark around the status of those titles.
On Wednesday, Khan will announce an ROH tag team tournament, named after the late Jay Briscoe.
Tag Team Battle Royale for a spot in the AEW Tag Team Title match at Revolution
The Revolution pay-per-view will feature a four-way tag team match for the AEW Tag Team Titles. We know that current champions, The Gunns, will be one team, and former champions, The Acclaimed, will be another.
This week’s Dynamite will include a Tag Team Battle Royale to determine the third team involved in the upcoming AEW Tag Team Title match. The Battle Royale will include Best Friends, Lucha Bros, Jay Lethal & Jeff Jarrett, Butcher & Blade, Top Flight, and Dark Order, among others.
The Lucha Bros have to be the odds-on favorite here as they have a wealth of pay-per-view experience and instantly upgrade any match they are a part of.
But Darius and Dante Martin have been on a roll lately, stacking up impressive performance after impressive performance. Top Flight and the Lucha Bros will most likely be the last two teams standing in this match, with Top Flight earning the win. Winners: Top Flight
Jon Moxley vs Evil Uno
Evil Uno will make a rare in-ring appearance on Dynamite this week when he goes one-on-one with Jon Moxley.
A lot has changed for the Dark Order since they and Brodie Lee stood over the beaten body of Cody Rhodes as AEW Dynamite went off the air several years ago. The Dark Order has basically become an afterthought in AEW as most of the faction has disbanded and the rest only remain somewhat relevant because of their friendship with “Hangman” Adam Page.
This match will serve to further the tension between Mox and Page as we head toward their Texas Death Match at Revolution. Winner: Jon Moxley
The Acclaimed vs Big Bill & Lee Moriarty
Big Bill and Lee Moriarty have been a pretty cohesive tag team since joining forces under the umbrella of The Firm, albeit in mostly losing fashion. This week will most likely be more of the same as they take on the former AEW Tag Team Champions The Acclaimed.
The only chance The Acclaimed have to lose this match is if The Gunns decide to get involved. Even taking that into consideration, it makes more sense for The Acclaimed to continue to rebuild momentum heading into Revolution, as that serves to add some needed suspense as to the possible outcome of the four-way Tag Team Title match. Winners: The Acclaimed
Saraya vs Skye Blue
Saraya will continue her war against homegrown AEW talent when she takes on Skye Blue.
In theory, this AEW vs The Outsiders program seems like it should be a fun angle that breathes some life into the women’s division. Unfortunately, this has not translated into reality. The “L”‘s that have been spray painted on the victims of Saraya and Storm lately also accurately represent the quality of these segments, as they have been pretty lame.
The only somewhat interesting thing that has come from this is the uncertainty of where Ruby Soho’s loyalties lie. But this is an answer we most likely will not get until Revolution.
Saraya will dispatch Skye Blue and break out the spray paint yet again as we move towards what will most likely be a six-person tag team match at the pay-per-view. Winner: Saraya
Orange Cassidy vs Wheeler Yuta for the All-Atlantic Title
Former Best Friends will square off for the All-Atlantic Title on Wednesday when Orange Cassidy and Wheeler Yuta lock horns.
This is an interesting matchup between two guys that can really go inside the ropes and it wouldn’t be out of the question for the title to change hands here. But with Wheeler Yuta currently holding the ROH Pure Title, Orange Cassidy will most likely walk out of Phoenix the All-Atlantic Champion.
At the conclusion of the match, Orange Cassidy will celebrate yet another victory when the long-awaited return of Miro will finally take place, setting up an All-Atlantic Championship match at Revolution between the two. Winner: Orange Cassidy
