In just a matter of time, WrestleMania 39 will go Hollywood!  The show promises to be one of the most exciting to date. Although, there is still much debate about what the match will be for the WWE Undisputed Universal Championship.

I can’t remember the last time that we had two separate talents so over heading toward a WrestleMania main event. Since his grand return at WrestleMania a year ago, the WWE Universe knew that Cody Rhodes had his sights on the top prize in the company. Unfortunately, a torn pectoral muscle put Rhodes out of action for the rest of 2022. While Cody was recovering, the WWE Undisputed Universal Champion Roman Reigns has continued to dominate the company and any challengers that have been put in front of him.

Roman Reigns has dominated as world champion for over 900 days. He has become the final boss to defeat, as his theme music may warn you, but nobody has been able to defeat him and beat this game just yet. However, all the viewers of this playthrough are potentially about to see somebody do the impossible and beat the game.

Sami Zayn and Rhodes both have a ton of momentum and have the WWE Universe torn on who they want to win in the end. While Cody has been the chosen one by prophecy, Zayn is the chosen one of the people.

The storyline between Zayn and The Bloodline has been Oscar-worthy. When Sami first started working with The Bloodline, nobody could have expected the masterpiece that it turned out to be. Zayn has been doing the best work of his career alongside the group. While The Bloodline has been about recognition and dominance, Zayn adds the element of fun that the group didn’t know it needed. While the story has been intense the past few months dealing with Sami’s acceptance in the family, Sami has provided both funny and sincere moments.

While all eyes on supposed to be on “The Tribal Chief” Roman Reigns, the eyes of the WWE Universe have focused on the man that was standing in the back. The fans were fully behind “Sami Uso” as a member of The Bloodline but they are behind him more than ever now that he has broken free from Roman and company. We saw firsthand at Elimination Chamber how over Zayn has become with the crowd. He may have had the home-field advantage there but the love for Sami is universal. Without a doubt, he has become who many want to dethrone Roman Reigns.

However, the company still seems destined on wanting Cody Rhodes to be the one to dethrone Reigns. However, due to the unbelievable support and admiration that Zayn has been receiving, Rhodes getting his special moment could be tarnished. The WWE doesn’t need nearly 100 thousand fans booing because they didn’t get their desires and Sami is instead pushed into a tag team championship match instead. While both Roman Reigns versus Cody Rhodes and The Usos versus Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens are both great matches, they might feel forced.

Now, it may seem that the company has backed itself into a corner but quite the contrary. They have an opportunity to allow both Sami Zayn and Cody Rhodes to get their WrestleMania moments if they book the match the right way. However, to get to the answer for this year’s WrestleMania main event, we need to time-travel into the past a bit. Let’s rewind a little over 20 years… sheesh… to the year 2000. Going into that year’s WrestleMania, rookie sensation Kurt Angle was on his way to having one of the best rookie years in the history of the business.

Heading towards that year’s show, Angle was holding the Intercontinental and European Championship, which the holder of both was commonly deemed the “Euro-Continental Champion.” He feuded with Chris Jericho and Chris Benoit leading to WrestleMania which ended up in a triple threat match being made for both the Intercontinental and European Championship. In a unique match stipulation, the triple threat match was made to have two falls with the first fall being for the European Championship and the second being for the Intercontinental.

Kurt went on to lose both of his championships without being pinned in either fall. That protected Angle while still having him lose both of the titles cleanly, something that the WWE may want to do with Roman Reigns. However, Benoit and Jericho were able to shine and both took falls in the match at the same time. They left with the championships while Angle still had his claim of being better than the two for not being involved in either fall. Now, 23 years later, the WWE could dust off an old match type to please all parties involved.

It has been rumored that the WWE has been planning on bringing in a second world championship when they already have two; if they would just split them back up. This would be the perfect place to make the split and it would make two stars at the same time. Sami and Cody would be able to have a celebration with their newly won championships that would please most all fans involved. However, in a match like this, Roman Reigns should remain protected as an unstoppable force. While it is time for him to be dethroned, it has to be done the right way.

Roman hasn’t taken a pin in nearly three years. The moment that he is pinned has to be the big moment of the show. The first fall of the match should come over Rhodes or Zayn to build up that final one… two… three. While Cody Rhodes deserves to become a world champion and fulfill his dream for himself and his father, Sami Zayn should be the one to pin Roman in the end. The perfect ending to this story that truly deserves more than tag team championships. Sami has been a workhorse for years and deserves to be the WWE Champion.

dark. Next. Three matches that would boost the WrestleMania 39 card

While sadly it may already be too late, it’s now or never for the WWE to pull the trigger.
