Kenny Omega is a central figure to AEW and rumors are swirling about a potential exit.

The rumor mill was set ablaze recently when long-time wrestling journalist Wade Keller of PW Torch reported that “Kenny Omega is open-minded to landing in the WWE before his career is over”.

Omega’s contract status with AEW is up in the air, with reports stating it may end in the next few months or the end of the year. While Omega has not commented on the rumor, one thing is for certain: AEW simply cannot afford to lose the “Best Bout Machine”.

When The Elite banded together to form All Elite Wrestling in January 2019, they did so to change the wrestling world. The WWE had long been the main platform for professional wrestling in the United States and AEW would, in theory, offer an alternative to fans and wrestlers alike.

Fast-forward to February of 2022 and we could see the first crack in the armor as Cody Rhodes, who was not only one of the founding members of AEW but also an EVP of the organization, was unable to reach an agreement on a new contract and shortly thereafter signed with the WWE.

Needless to say, this resulted in quite a jolt to fans of AEW as it was hard to believe that one of the biggest driving forces in the creation of the company was off to join “the enemy”.

While losing Cody was a hard pill to swallow, losing Omega could be a catastrophe.

Omega, the two-time WON and PWI Wrestler of the Year, is known worldwide as one of the best in-ring talents of his generation. His list of accolades is hard to believe when you sit down and give them a look.

Not only is Omega a fan-favorite that you know you can put in the ring with almost anyone and draw a reaction from the crowd, but he is also an EVP of AEW. From a fan’s perspective, losing two of the foundational pieces of the organization just a few years into its existence could leave the audience wondering how long AEW will stick around.

Above and beyond the previously mentioned reasons, losing Omega to the WWE could be a deciding factor in where his long-time friend and tag team partner Kota Ibushi ends up following his stint in NJPW.

Next. Kenny Omega would thrive if he joined the WWE. dark

AEW needs to do whatever it can to keep Omega, and the rest of The Elite, in the company for the next few years while they continue to build stars such as “Jungle Boy Jack Perry”, Ricky Starks, and Darby Allin. The “Best Bout Machine” brings a level of confidence and stability that AEW needs so the wrestling world knows that they mean business and are here to stay.
