It’s time to correct Asuka’s winless WrestleMania record must come to an end

Asuka has yet to pick up a victory at WrestleMania and 2023 is the time to fix that error.

Victories at WrestleMania are a career accolade that not every wrestler gets to achieve. Regardless of how fans feel about WWE as a company, WrestleMania is still the biggest showcase in the sport, and getting a big moment at the PPV is a memorable achievement. With all her career accolades, Asuka has never experienced getting her hand raised at the monumental event. WrestleMania 39 should be the moment when that changes.

Asuka’s WrestleMania track record doesn’t represent the performer that fans love and peers respect. At WrestleMania 34 she was defeated by Charlotte Flair, ending her win streak that carried through her days as NXT Champion. At WrestleMania 37 she was defeated by Rhea Ripley, losing another singles title match at the “Show of Shows.” Throw in WrestleMania 36 where Asuka and KAIRI dropped the tag titles to Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross, that would add another defeat to Asuka’s ledger.

Before her return at the Royal Rumble, fans have long called for a shift in Asuka’s presentation on the main roster. They’ve wanted to see the feared woman that dominated NXT, and elements of the dark persona, Kana, that raged in Japan. This iteration of Asuka seems to be headed in that direction, but to completely make the turn would require defeating one of the most dominant names in WWE today, Bianca Belair.

Bianca Belair will not suffer drastically with a defeat

Belair is enjoying a “John Cena” like run as the company’s top babyface. Her dominance as champion is second to only Roman Reigns. When WrestleMania 39 arrives, she will cross the threshold of a year-long run as champion.

Asuka versus Bianca Belair is a debate that will bring out the best and worst in fans of both women. Both are fan favorites regardless of their character direction. When given the opportunity, they excel in the chances that are given to them as superstars on the WWE roster. Belair’s run shows WWE made the right decision when she was eventually given the ball to lead the women’s roster. Asuka, even with multiple championship runs on the main roster, has yet to receive that same opportunity as the focal point of the division. She’s always played second fiddle to one of her peers on the roster, and it’s time to change that while the moment is hot.

No one would be surprised if Belair picked up her third straight victory at WrestleMania. However, Asuka’s contributions in the WWE have pushed her to be one of the most popular women on the roster. Yet she’s never picked up a win at WrestleMania. Things should go differently for her in 2023 and kick off a fresh run at the top of the women’s division.
