The WWE Draft is coming back and these are three things that must happen when the shows begin to make their picks.

Triple H stepped on the April 7 edition of WWE SmackDown and made the announcement that the WWE Draft is coming. He promised that it would be bigger and better than previous editions. Those are important words as WWE is heading into a time where fans are watching the product closely for any signs that Vince McMahon is back leading creative down to the minor details. If this edition of the draft is going to shake the foundations of the company when it needs it the most, here are three things that must happen.

Draft NXT talent to both shows

WWE NXT is in an odd place. Each week it puts on some of the best content WWE has to offer. With solid matches and ample representation of the women’s division, the Tuesday evening shows are enjoyable, regardless of what some critics may say for clicks and views.

However, the show is almost non-existent when it comes to main roster continuity. When stars pop up on either Raw or SmackDown, their NXT accolades are rarely mentioned. Plus, the show isn’t as highly promoted on Monday and Friday as one would think. There are multiple names on NXT that are ready for a main roster run and the WWE Draft should be where that happens.

Roxanne Perez, Cameron Grimes, The Creed Brothers, Kayden Cater, and Katana Chance are four names that immediately come to mind. Bringing them to the main roster would immediately boost both the women’s singles and tag divisions, plus add more depth to the WWE mid-card and tag team roster. Bron Breakker should be included in this list, but he’s entering another angle with NXT Champion, Carmelo Hayes. It will be interesting to watch if any names from NXT are drafted because that outcome will say a lot about the future of content on both brands.

Split up the Street Profits

It’s time to split up the Street Profits to come to an end, and the WWE Draft is a tool to do just that.

Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins can thrive as individual names. Moving Ford to SmackDown and keeping Dawkins on Raw would help strengthen both rosters that need depth at both the mid and main-event levels. Ford is ready for a run as a singles title challenger. Imagine him being the man that overcomes GUNTHER at some point in 2023. Dawkins continues to show he should not be overshadowed and giving him a run in the Raw mid-card helps his growth.

It’s time to see both these men thrive without going the route of them fighting each other…yet.

Split up Damage CTRL

Damage CTRL has run its course. Breaking up the group would best serve the women’s division and the individual stars.

Fans were excited when Bayley, Dakota Kai, and IYO Sky walked out to confront Bianca Belair and Becky Lynch. But the duo hasn’t hit its major goal since that moment. Yes, they’ve obtained multiple runs as the tag team champions, but Bayley was unable to win a singles championship. After losing to Trish Stratus, Lita, and Becky Lynch at WrestleMania, it’s hard to see these women do anything else meaningful as a group. Splitting them up and moving them to different shows is a refreshing opportunity for everyone involved.

Send Dakota Kai to SmackDown, keep IYO Sky on Raw, and perhaps give Bayley a new look with a run in WWE NXT. She’s a star in women’s wrestling and if Vince is back in charge of Raw and SmackDown, fans know that means bad things for women’s wrestling. Slotting Bayley on WWE NXT where she can help the roster of the future is the right move.

Sky can kick off a much-anticipated feud with Asuka on Raw, while Kai can hopefully find a place on SmackDown where the women’s division needs more workers such as her.

EXTRA HELPING: Keep The New Day together and on SmackDown

Fans are awaiting a big return for Big E. He’s traveled with the company, most recently being around backstage for WrestleMania. WWE will have a massive babyface on their hands when he comes back and fans will want to see him elevated to the main event. However, the shenanigans of attempting to split up The New Day must come to an end.

If Big E is the man to confront Roma Reigns for a long-term angle, he will need to have Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods by his side. Vince has attempted to break the group up multiple times – almost as if he’s offended by their continued success. There was a time when they were not allowed to be called “The New Day.” This came after breaking the group up via the draft.

If Big E is included and mentioned during the WWE Draft, and he’s prepared to return to action, WWE must keep The New Day together as a group.

These are three, plus one, things that must happen to build momentum and excitement after the 2023 WWE Draft.
