WWE Backlash 2023 Predictions: Omos Will Bury Seth Rollins

Gunther (c) vs. Sheamus [Intercontinental Championship]

Sheamus will dethrone Gunther to become the new Intercontinental Champion and achieve his Ultimate Grand Slam. As predicted here on Daily DDT, Gunther was always gonna win at WrestleMania because he put in some impeccable work as Intercontinental Champ for 200+ days and had to solidify his reign on the big stage, especially since it was his first Mania. Sheamus did not need the win at Mania as much as Gunther did, as he already had his Mania moments, but that does not change the fact that he now needs the Intercontinental Title more than Gunther does.

Now that Mania is out of the way, it’s time for Sheamus to get the big win. He already defeated Imperium alongside Brawling Brutes on SmackDown, which is a sign that he is not done with the IC Title and will win it before the WWE Draft. Honky Tonk Man’s IC title record is safe for now.

Austin Theory (c) vs. Bobby Lashley vs. Bronson Reed [U.S. Championship]

Austin Theory will defeat Bobby Lashley and Bronson Reed by the skin of his teeth to retain the United States Championship because he will solidify his big victory over John Cena at WrestleMania by at least holding the belt until the summer. Lashley and Reed are in a feud of their own and will likely cancel each other out, as their willingness to beat each other up will distract them from the main goal of winning the United States Championship. Theory is mainly here to pick up the scraps of the beatdown and escape with his title unscathed like a snarky heel should.

While Lashley and Reed continue their feud into the summer, Austin Theory will have some fresh challengers for his title once the WWE Draft takes place. There are some rumored NXT call-ups and fresh meat on SmackDown that will be chomping at the bit for an opportunity at the gold.
