Edge is now wrestling for AEW, making him a very valuable asset to the WWE’s competition. But he is not just confined to AEW matches. Here are 5 dream matches that Edge would do amazing in.

Adam Copeland, Edge, was once a company man for WWE, but Tony Khan did the impossible and brought him to the other side. Hypothetically speaking, AEW lets their talent do gigs in the indie feds, so Edge is free reign for any wrestling show. It seems unlikely that the biggest draw of AEW would do an indie show, but then again, signing Edge to AEW was also unlikely.

1. Sami Callihan

Sami has made a name for himself in Impact. He is a hardcore beast, a heel worth cheering for, and the gutter punk of Ohio. He currently runs the business side of Wrestling Revolver. Sami would be an amazing opponent for Edge. They both love playing “dangerous heels” in their work and Sami would ensure that the match was brutal. I don’t think Edge would take a screwdriver to the skull for Sami, but there would be a lot of chair and table shots.

I think Sami would not mind losing to Edge. The honor of having a no-DQ match would be victory enough.

2. BT Gunn

ICW, Insane Championship Wrestling, had a very good wrestling relationship with WWE until they had to cut ties and remove themselves from the WWE Network. ICW was responsible for half of their roster moving to NXT UK and they had many WWE wrestlers cameo at their events. ICW would have a good shot at connecting with Adam Copeland. One wrestler who would do a phenomenal match with Edge is BT Gunn.

BT Gunn has earned the title “King of Insanity.” He has been in some brutal weapon matches with Stevie Boy and Kez. It would be a mistake to pigeonhole BT as just a hardcore wrestler. The man is the definition of British Strong Style and can actually make it look entertaining. Edge would not have to worry about wrestling with an amateur as BT can handle himself in the ring. He is like a UK Jon Moxley but with a wider move arsenal.

This match would be full of high spots and near falls and the ICW crowd would be 1000% behind both wrestlers.

3. Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin

The Motor City Machine Guns are worthy of being on the Mount Rushmore of tag teams. They rocked NJPW. They invaded every indie fed worth mentioning. They are a major reason Impact is still a household name. People talk about the Young Bucks or The Hardy Boyz being a dream tag team, but TMCMG is ten times worthier in my book.

Edge would have to make nice with Christian and become a tag team with him (something we all know that is going to happen). Once he reunites with his best bud he can start establishing himself as an unstoppable force. The Young Bucks and the Hardy Boyz will have first dibs at them, but eventually Edge and Christian should face Alex and Chris. This would be an amazing match full of speed, grace, and hard-hitting spots. Dave Meltzer would have no choice but to award the match at least 4 stars.

4. Joey Janela

I don’t believe Joey has the notoriety or the chops to face off against Edge. Joey is no slouch and his work in GCW speaks for itself, but my reason for putting him on this list has a greater purpose. Edge would make a great manager for Joey. Joey is still young and fresh, an edgy wrestler who is not afraid of cages, tacks, and tables. Edge would be able to refine that talent and build up his personality. This would be a heel relationship, making Edge like the master puppeteer to his young protege. Look at Christian’s work with Luchasaurus to get an idea of how this could work. Adam Copeland could take Joey to some new places.

Eventually, Joey Janela could face Edge in a great match. Maybe Joey would betray Edge or vice versa. Perhaps a Lights Out match would be in the best interest of both wrestlers.

5. David Finley and other Bullet Club members

We can’t do a dream match list without mentioning someone from New Japan. No doubt being connected to AEW would give Adam Copeland access to Zack Sabre Jr, Will Osprey, and Eddie Kingston. Those are inevitable. The one thing NJPW has exclusive access to is the real Bullet Club. A team of evil frat boys who love to cheat and brutalize their opponents to get ahead. AEW is no stranger to making iconic stables to fight them.

Imagine if Edge had to make his own “Regeneration X” in AEW to fight against the Bullet Club’s invasion. David Finley, Clark Connors, KENTA, and Jay White could all unite, bringing their brand of destruction to the AEW ring. Edge would get Christian, Billy Gunn, and some new honorary members: MJF and Chris Jericho. The story alone would be worth the price of the tickets, but both teams would do some amazing work in the ring. This is the type of match where fans would be screaming “fight forever” at every high spot.
