Best use of Brock Lesnar is to job to Gunther in 2024

Brock Lesnar coming back to WWE in 2024 would look different with Triple H in charge and it should lead to a big victory for Gunther at WrestleMania 40. 

It’s nearly Royal Rumble season and that means the potential for major returns is on the rise. Fans are already looking forward to Randy Orton coming back before Survivor Series, and there’s anticipation for more in the coming months. Brock Lesnar’s name has popped up in the rumor mill and he’d be a big name to bring back into the fold for another part-time run. If that is the case and the Beast Incarnate walks through the door it should be for one purpose and one purpose only, to put over Gunther at WrestleMania.

Dave Meltzer mentioned on Wrestling Observer Radio that Lesnar is due back either by or at the Royal Rumble, set for January 27. That would be a big return for Lesnar, hopefully signaling a run that would see him compete at WrestleMania 40 in Philadelphia. If that is the case, there’s a perfect opportunity to book a big match against Gunther that would catch the eyeballs of many sports entertainment and professional wrestling fans.

Now, the first big question and response is “What about Chad Gable?” Many predict that his chase to the WWE Intercontinental Championship isn’t over and that picking up a win over Gunther at WrestleMania would be a career-defining moment. While that is true, there’s no argument that Lesnar versus Gunther would be a bigger match. Gunther could drop the championship to Gable at an earlier date, such as at the Rumble itself or even better, during a well-promoted match on WWE Raw.

Taking the IC title off Gunther and putting him back in the Rumble match against Lesnar opens the door to the big match. The two faced off for a moment in 2023 but were interrupted before things could reach a high point. Set that stage again in 2024 but lead to a moment when the two men eliminate each other. That’s all either man would need to set up a big match at Mania a few months later.

Lesnar versus Gunther would be a massive moment in wrestling. Gunther is riding a meteoric rise that few would have predicted for him on the main roster. He continues to deliver top matches every time he steps in the ring and is making a strong case for the 2024 Wrestler of the Year. Giving him a match and moment against Lesnar would be one of the major talking points heading into WrestleMania. And of course, Gunther must go over. Think about the momentum he would have come out of WrestleMania battling Lesnar and pinning him clean in the ring. “To the moon” as one Cameron Grimes would say. That would be the perfect way to kick off his run toward the WWE World Championship.

With Triple H leading WWE Creative, there is an opportunity to improve how part-time performers are used. If Brock Lesnar is truly coming back at the Royal Rumble, that should set the stage for him losing a big match to Gunther at WrestleMania. It’s the only way that situation should go.
