3 big matches for Konosuke Takeshita as AEW International Champion
Konosuke Takeshita is finally a champion in All Elite Wrestling. He inserted himself into the Will Ospreay versus Ricochet drama, and he’s come out with a title on the back end of things. Now, fans are ready to see Takeshita put on a show as a champion – a position he’s long deserved in AEW. Looking at the roster, here are three matches that must happen now that he has a title around his waist.
PAC
PAC is one of the best wrestlers on the AEW roster. He was the first International Champion and perhaps the best individual to not hold the AEW World Championship so far. For years, he’s been regarded as a pioneer in high-flying and high-impact offense, one of the innovators that helped set the tone for today’s industry. Putting Takeshita versus PAC on a show like AEW Dynamite or Collision would certainly draw interest. Dream match? Absolutely.
Buddy Matthews
Yes, Buddy Matthews has long been a background character. But please remember that he is an exceptional singles performer as well. He held the WWE Cruiserweight Championship for 183 days back in 2018-2019, and during that run, he put on some of the best matches in wrestling at that time. His series against Mustafa Ali is still worth a watch today. Finding a way to get Buddy Matthews versus Konosuke Takeshita for a one-off match would be an excellent addition to any show within AEW.
Kota Ibushi
Kota Ibushi has been out with injury but has recently posted pictures of him and Kenny Omega training, preparing for their return. Before he was put on the shelf, Ibushi and Takeshita were seemingly heading toward a feud that would have put them face-to-face. Once Ibushi is healthy, this is a match that needs to happen. Kota Ibushi versus Konosuke Takeshita would be an amazing singles match for the AEW International Championship and would fit perfectly on any AEW PPV.
