A return for Kenny Omega and Kota Ibushi would be big for AEW

All Elite Wrestling already has a stacked roster, with several of the best names in the business. Well, it looks like the promotion is preparing to get two names back as Kota Ibushi and Kenny Omega recently shared a picture of them training to get back into the ring.

Ibushi has made several social media posts about the potential return and being in the ring with Omega. Back on September 18, Ibushi commented that he and Omega are “far from done.” In another, he posted that he “I got to train hard with Kenny again today.”

Both Omega and Ibushi have been out of the ring for a while, with Omega being on the shelf the longer of the two. His last match was back in December of 2023, when he picked up a victory over Ethan Page. Ibushi was last in the ring at the start of September but hasn’t appeared in AEW since November of that same year. Omega is battling diverticulitis while Ibushi is out with a tibiofibular ligament tear.

A returning Omega and Ibushi would immediately create a boost in the AEW main event scene as they both have several directions they can take. Omega already has a built-in angle with The Elite, as they attacked him after kicking him out of the group, only to replace him with one of his biggest rivals in Kazuchika Okada. Another edition of Okada versus Omega in AEW would be huge for professional wrestling. Omega could even find himself in an angle with “Hangman” Adam Page as he may be the only one to keep his former tag partner from the dark descent that is consuming him.

Ibushi can be paired alongside Omega, which would make sense, or he can go on his own path. Think about a series of matches between Ibushi and the likes of Will Ospreay, Ricochet, and Konosuke Takeshita battling over the AEW International Title. Again, those are exciting matches built for the people who follow AEW and love professional wrestling as a whole.

Injuries are a plague in professional wrestling, frequently limiting the availability of some of the top names in the industry. Kota Ibushi and Kenny Omega are two big names in All Elite Wrestling who are currently out of action. If they are set to return soon, the promotion would be getting two big names back on the scene.
