SummerSlam is widely considered the second-biggest PLE on the WWE annual schedule. This year, the show goes a step bigger by introducing the two-day format. While this is a step to increase overall revenue for the event and the company, it also presents the opportunity to give fans more wrestling action on Saturday and Sunday. Looking at this card, there's a lot of interesting matches to look forward to seeing. Here are three bold predictions for the weekend.
Jade Cargill will beat Tiffany Stratton clean
Tiffany Stratton has enjoyed a lengthy title run. She just surpassed 200 days as the WWE Women's Champion. Stratton is one of those performers who WWE seemingly has high hopes for longterm. She's the type of performer the company consistently positions as a primary character on the main roster. If she continues to improve, fans can expect to see her become a multiple-time champion over the years.
But she will not defeat Jade Cargill this weekend. Cargill is far from being the best in the ring, but she has the aura that WWE covets, especially under Endeavor's leadership. This company is focused on attention, generating clicks, and headlines. Cargill is someone who can do all that. She has the look and presentation of a mega star. WWE is going to do all they can to put her in that position. Plus, Bianca Belair's upcoming return sets the stage for a huge rivalry between the two.
Dominick Mysterio vs AJ Styles will be one of the best matches over the weekend
Listen, it is easy to hate on Dominick Mysterio. He's the poster child of a nepobaby. At least, he was when he first got his start in WWE. But along the way, something happened. Dominick Mysterio has become one of the most over and entertaining aspects of main roster television. Yes, the reactions he was recieving for a long time were manufactured. But look back to the response to him winning the WWE Intercontinental Champoinship. Mysterio recieved a huge response from fans and that kept up until WWE cooled him off a bit.
Enter this feud with AJ Styles. This match has the potential to be something special. Partly because both men are in the odd position of having something to prove. Mysterio wants the world to respect him as a performer, while Styles is showing that he still has what it takes to get the job done. This will be a fun one from bell to bell.
Jey Uso will turn on Roman Reigns
This one is hidden in the tea leaves. Jey Uso siding with Roman Reigns makes sense. They are family. They've been through it all together. But, don't forget what Reigns did to Jey for years. The torment, gaslighting, and punishment cannot be ignored or forgotten. Roman Reigns never apologized for his actions. He never celebrated Jey Uso's Royal Rumle or World Heavyweight Championship victory. Reigns has yet to be held accountable for his actions and that accountablity is coming his way through Jey Uso.
Seeing Jey Uso turn on Roman Reigns would be a huge moment. It is one that Reigns deserves and immediately makes sense. Roman Reigns versus Jey Uso would be an interesting feud that could carry both men outside of the title picture for quite a while. Does it kick off on Saturday? Potentially, and this would be the biggest headline coming out of the show.
