3 names to be the first to defeat Mercedes Mone

Since joining the company, Mercedes Mone has been a vital part of the AEW roster. The lead-up and weeks immediately following her arrival led to a boost in how the division was presented on television. While momentum has swayed since, Mone is still one of the biggest stars in the company. She remains undefeated since joining AEW, but in all things wrestling, that will come to an end. Looking at the roster, here are three ideas for who should be the first woman to defeat Mercedes Mone.

ATHENA

The “Forever Champion” seems stuck in Ring of Honor. While her peers get the opportunity to show up on main roster shows, ATHENA continues to carry ROH each week. At some point, Tony Khan will recognize the error of his ways and bring her to the main roster, allowing the rest of the AEW viewer-base to bask in her glory. The perfect way to introduce her? Have Athena defeat Mercedes Mone. The current TBS Champion has named Athena as a woman she’d like to face and they would be a huge feud for AEW.

Kamille

One of the biggest tropes in professional wrestling is the split between the star wrestler and their “backup.” Kamille was put in the perfect spot when she debuted as the “heavy” for Mone. That’s a role where she doesn’t have to work the microphone much and her physicality carries her. As her in-ring continues to catch up to the AEW style, an eventual split between her and Mone is a story the company has in its back pocket. It would be interesting to see how fans would respond to her in this role.

Marina Shafir

Marina Shafir is involved in one of the primary angles going on in AEW. She’s in the perfect position beside Jon Moxley and seems a part of the new version of the Blackpool Combat Club. While fans were critical of her work for years, those paying attention saw her improve as a part of Ring of Honor. As her style continues to develop, it would be interesting to see if she begins to target some of the women on the AEW roster, especially Mercedes Mone as she’s not a “homegrown” talent. Mone would certainly sell the Mother’s Milk choke and that would be a stunning visual.
