Perhaps the biggest news coming out of the November 9 edition of WWE SmackDown was the unveiling of the WWE Women’s United States Championship. Fans have long called for WWE to introduce another prize for the women’s division, in hopes that it would create more opportunities for the talented roster. Nick Aldis introduced the new championship.

“It’s time to reveal something that represents exactly that,” Aldis said during a video. “A new symbol of excellence in the WWE, the WWE Women’s United States Championship. This title will not be awarded. It will not be handed over. It will be earned by whomever is willing. Whoever is willing to go above and beyond to seize the moment. Ladies, an opportunity knocks. It’s time to answer and make history.”

That’s quite the opening statement for a new title. There was no word on how the championship would find its first holder, or if there were plans for a Women’s Intercontinental Championship on Raw. But if this new title is exclusive to SmackDown, there are several names on that roster who would be perfect to kick off the legacy of that new championship.

Honorable Mentions:

Candice LeRae and Michin

These two ladies are the perfect individuals to hold this championship at some point. They are stalwarts in women’s wrestling, both within WWE and well beyond. Unfortunately, they haven’t been leveraged in a way that fans completely love within this company. But when they get the opportunity, they consistently show off why they are two beloved figures in women’s wrestling. They may not be the first to hold this title, but they should certainly be involved with it down the line, hoping to get runs of their own.

Bayley

If WWE wanted to go the route of putting the championship on an established name to build up its brand, Bayley would be the right call. Just like Seth Rollins did for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, Bayley would be a believable champion to get this title off the ground. She could have a lengthy run with the title before handing it off to another woman to run with the momentum.

Chelsea Green

Chelsea Green should be the early favorite to get her hands on this title first. Why? Because she continues to find ways to get over with the fans. Green is hilarious as a character and serviceable as a performer. She does what is necessary to keep fans engaged in everything she does, which is the whole point of sports entertainment. Plus, she’s the type of performer who would be a perfect spokesperson for the promotion in mainstream opportunities. Plus, with Piper Niven by her side, she’d have the perfect type of heel heat that WWE likes to play up. And that brings the conversation to the third performer.

Piper Niven

Piper Niven should get a run as a monster heel at some point. Her move set is already amazing, imagine if she punched things up, taking from the Hall of Famer Vader and using a lot of his moves to further display her strength against the other women on the roster. And she comes with the perfect storyline to get things started with her partnership and potential split from Chelsea Green.
