3 potential retirement matches for Bill Goldberg
Bill Goldberg is planning to wrap up his career. As more of the top names in the business brings things to a close, an entire generation of wrestling seems to be coming to a close. Goldberg’s retirement in 2025 will come on the heels of Sting and Bryan Danielson in 2024, and just before John Cena and Hiroshi Tanahashi in 2025 and 2026, respectively. Goldberg confirmed his final sendoff and these are three names that stand out as individuals who should retire the former champion.
GUNTHER
Goldberg has already hinted at a face-off against the current WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Gunther had some harsh things to say about Goldberg, his career, and his family at Bad Blood. It makes sense why the prideful Goldberg would want revenge at some point.
This would be an acceptable match to make for Goldberg’s final run, only if he isn’t booked to defeat Gunther. The backlash online would be bonkers if Goldberg somehow brought another important run to an end. Triple H would not make that mistake, at least we hope. And besides, seeing Goldberg must take one of Gunther’s massive chops would be enjoyable to all.
Randy Orton
Randy Orton should get a massive run as a big heel on SmackDown next year. It’s the type of run that should cause him to turn on Cody Rhodes, take the WWE Undisputed Championship, and perhaps face off against John Cena at WrestleMania 41. However, along the way, he should go through Bill Goldberg as a major title defense, sending Goldberg packing one last time.
Imagine Orton bringing back the Legend Killer gimmick for one last championship run. Goldberg would certainly be a legend to add to the list. Randy Orton and Bill Goldberg have never locked up in any form of match and this would be a big one to book in 2025.
Oba Femi
Now, if Bill Goldberg is truly ready to retire, he should be convinced to put over a big name on the way out. A name that would need a launching pad is none other than Oba Femi. The former NXT North American Champion is rumored to be moving up to the main roster at some point. Imagine the response if he makes that debut and goes on a massive win streak. This would harken back to what Goldberg did during his youth in WCW, prompting him to attempt to be the one to stop Femi. Only to be crushed and the latest name added to the list. Imagine Oba Femi saying “You’re Next” either before or after dispatching Bill Goldberg. What a way to make a big name on the main roster.
