Ring of Honor is a wrestling promotion that has a wealth of history for the industry. It’s the company that has given the space for some of the biggest names of today to carve their path to those positions. Now, it’s a branch of All Elite Wrestling, owned by Tony Khan. The debate about how the brand has been used since his purchase is one thing, but it’s a fact that ROH has some talented performers on the roster. Looking at who is on the list, these are three individuals who would work well if leveraged on AEW’s main shows.
Ok, so before you dive into the three names selected, ATHENA is not included on this list because the “Forever Champion” has long been ready for her time in the spotlight. Oddly, Khan continues to function as if he can’t figure out how to leverage her as the star she is, but that’s another piece for another day. Leaving the longest reigning ROH World Champion in history out of the debate, here are three other names ready for an extended run.
Lee Moriarty
Lee Moriarty is a guy that AEW fans wanted to see signed to the company the minute he walked through the door. Like Daniel Garcia, he was seen as one of those young performers who could shape the future of not only the promotion, but professional wrestling entirely. He’s been the ROH Pure Champion for 183 days as of this writing. Along the way, he’s picked up wins over Nigel McGuinness, Preston Vance, Angelico, and others. Where would he fit? Well, it would be interesting to see him as the fourth member of The Hurt Syndicate. Imagine him being the addition that gave that group the power to take on the Death Riders. There’s something there worth exploring.
Gates of Agony
Bishop Kaun and Toa Liona pop up on AEW television from time to time. Usually, they are put in that position to lose to another team, seen as a filler in the tag team division. However, they pick up wins from time to time on Ring of Honor. Take one look at Kaun and Liona. They look like two men who should be booked as a force in the tag team division. Some think that Kaun has the look to be a singles star as well. If AEW is truly looking to retool their tag team division, this is a group that should be looked at as future contenders and perhaps challengers.
EJ Nduka
EJ Nduka is one of those AEW signings who has a lot of potential. Fans were intrigued with him when he was in WWE but never translated into much. His breakout came as a part of MLW and from that point forward, Nduka has been a name to keep a close eye on. Now he’s signed to AEW/ROH. He’s the type of performer who should be built as a big powerhouse, giving him a slow climb of wins before slotting him into a bigger angle. Will he get time on AEW television? Doesn’t quite seem like it yet, but he’s another performer in ROH who could have an impact on the main roster.
