WWE is the giant in the room when it comes to sports entertainment. While the company may not always focus on the matches, as said by Triple H, the matches are big moments that get the fans in seats and in front of their screens. With The New Year just a few weeks away, here are five big matches that WWE must give fans in 2026.
Cody Rhodes vs Randy Orton
There’s so much story to tell between Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton. It looked like WWE was going to make the move to this angle, but went in another direction. If Randy Orton is going to win another WWE Championship as his career winds down, taking it from Cody Rhodes would be the right move. Still, this story doesn’t need the title so it would also work as a way to keep both in an important angle while others used the title to build their legacy.
Oba Femi vs Gunther
Not only should Oba Femi and Gunther battle in a big one-on-one match, the match should feature Big E on commentary. In all seriousness though, Oba Femi and Gunther could tell quite an interesting story if given the chance. Imagine a scenario where Femi is chasing Gunther to take out the man who has retired two of the biggest names in wrestling in 2025. These two could have a slaptacular big man match and it would be fun from start to finish.
Iyo Sky vs Kairi Sane vs Asuka
Iyo Sky, Kairi Sane, and Asuka have decades of time together. These women are as close to sisters as they could be in the business. Their story spans their time in Japan, all the way through their current angle that is the best story being told on Monday Night Raw. Both Iyo Sky and Asuka have seen their time atop the women’s division. Imagine if a story came together that pitted them against each other, culminating in a big triple threat. This should be the match that pushes Kairi Sane into her own bid to become a top champion on the main roster.
Jade Cargill vs Bianca Belair
Jade Cargill versus Bianca Belair is a massive match for the company. It was one that seemed destined but WWE went in another direction and Belair has been out injured since WrestleMania. When she returns, she’s going to slot right into the main event picture and that picture must shine bright on SmackDown. Jade Cargill versus Bianca Belair would be a massive showcase if the two women are presented as top stars. It could easily work as a main event of a PLE or a Saturday Night’s Main Event, giving the women a chance to tell an interesting story.
Seth Rollins versus Roman Reigns
By the end of January 2026, four years will have passed since Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins faced off in a one-on-one battle. Their stories have remained linked for years, and there’s still so much left to tell between the two. At some point, WWE will have to begin to move away from Rollins and Reigns being featured as the top two names in the men’s division. But that doesn’t mean they will be fully removed from top stories. Seth Rollins versus Roman Reigns can main event a WWE PLE
