Asuka vs Kairi vs Iyo Sky is a story the WWE women's division needs

It is time for the WWE to put the spotlight on a non-title angle in the women's division and Kairi versus Iyo Sky versus Asuka is the story to do it.

The WWE women’s division is thriving. Some of the best action in the promotion comes from the women on the roster, across all three brands. Over on Monday Night Raw, WWE has the opportunity to tell one of the most compelling stories ever seen for the ladies. There’s a story to tell between Asuka, Iyo Sky, and Kairi Sane. One that should get all the attention of a main event angle.

The seeds are dropping that something is going to happen between Asuka, Kairi, and Iyo. Sky has asked her former Damage CTRL partners to no longer help her, saying that she wants to go her own way. However, Kairi and Asuka want to stick their neck out for their friend, recently costing her a match against Roxanne Perez.

While most may recognize them from their time in WWE, these three women have decades of history together, dating back to their start in Japan. That is the foundation that WWE needs to leverage to tell an angle that has the potential to be emotional, exciting, and elevating all of them into something special as singles performers.

Early inclinations are that Asuka is going to turn, which would make sense based on backstage segments. Typical WWE storytelling would have Kairi caught in the middle, only to side with Asuka, but what if this angle has an interesting swerve? Instead of making this a 2-on-1 situation, book each of the three ladies standing on their own.

Any pairing of this trio would be a huge singles match. Iyo Sky is putting on Match of the Year quality contests at an amazing clip this year. She should be near the top of every ranking when it comes time to pick the Women’s Wrestler of the Year. Things would get stepped up a notch if she were given the opportunity to go one-on-one with either Asuka or Kairi. The same could be said if they had singles matches against each other. All of this would culminate in a triple threat match at an event like Survivor Series or The Royal Rumble. That is the type of match that would put fans in their seats.

If Triple H is serious about his thoughts on how good the WWE women’s division has become, it is time he gives this group a high-level storyline that does not include a championship. Kairi versus Iyo Sky, versus Asuka is right there. Give these ladies the spotlight, and they will tear the house down both in the story and when it is time for the bell to ring.
