There's a lot of story left between Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns
Storytelling is a major part of both professional wrestling and sports entertainment. It’s the dramatic part that gets fans tuning in every week and paying money to attend shows. It’s the same hook that captures fans of video games, comic books, movies, and more. WWE has told an interesting story about Roman Reigns for much of the last four years. Even though it has experienced both highs and lows, it’s clear that the arc surrounding The Tribal Chief has been the most important in WWE. It is leading into its next phase as WWE Survivor Series WarGames 2024 approaches. It also involves Seth Rollins, perhaps the most important figure in the Roman Reigns story.
Everything about The Tribal Chief can be traced back to one night. June 2, 2014. Seth Rollins smashed a steel chair into both Reigns and Jon Moxley, setting off the destruction of The Shield. Even though the trio would reform multiple times after, that moment was the catalyst for Reigns developing his manipulative, gaslighting, and frightening figure that has terrorized the WWE for much of the last four years. Rollins may be known as “The Visionary,” but he’s really the catalyst behind one of the most important character turns in sports entertainment.
Ten years after Rollins turned his back on The Shield, the arc now puts the two men back together. Reigns needs help taking on the new version of The Bloodline, while Rollins is attempting to get his hands on Bronson Reed at all costs. But the real moment of this angle will be what happens when Rollins and Reigns face off. Rollins has made it clear that he hates everything Reigns has become, even though he’s played his part in creating the monster. So, what’s going to happen when these two come together just days before the PLE? That’s the moment everyone is waiting to see.
This chapter of The Bloodline story pits Reigns in the position of having to deal with the consequences of his actions. He tormented The Usos, Sami Zayn, and even Paul Heyman for years. He’ll have to apologize to all of them if he’s going to count on “the family” heading into WarGames and beyond. But he’s in a different position when it comes to Rollins. Rollins has been one of the biggest thrones in Reigns’s side even though he was a dominant champion. Rollins is the one man that Reigns could not defeat. And it was Rollins’s involvement at WrestleMania 40 that truly cost him the WWE Undisputed Championship. Reigns was willing to forego all of that because of his hatred for Rollins and what he did to The Shield a decade ago. But imagine a scenario where Reigns finds forgiveness for what Rollins did. What would that do for both men’s characters?
That is the question that will deliver for Survivor Series: WarGames and for months to come after. The Bloodline Angle is winding down, with WrestleMania 41 seemingly prepped to be the final showdown between Roman Reigns and The Rock. But there’s still much to tell between Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns. That’s the angle that fans should be excited to see next.
