Big signings are a major part of professional wrestling. All Elite Wrestling has secured several top names in the last few years. Another is set to join the company, as the promotion hinted of her arrival during the May 7 episode of AEW Dynamite.
During the show, a spider crawled across the AEW logo. Fans immediately noticed it and took to social media to express excitement that Thekla, the woman known as the "toxic spider" is headed to AEW. Fightful Select reported about the rumor of her signing back on April 30, and quickly confirmed the news with a report minutes later on Wednesday.
Thekla is a big name for the women's division and at the perfect time
AEW has a strong women's division, but is in an odd position at this time. Toni Storm is over with the fans and has an iron grip on the AEW Women's Championship for the fourth time. Mercedes Mone is riding her own wave as the TBS Champion and the favorite to win the 2025 Women's Owen Hart Foundation Cup. But outside of those two, the division doesn't have anyone who stands out as a top contender.
This is where Thekla comes into play. The Wein, Osterreich native has performed for the biggest organizations in professional wrestling, including New Japan Pro Wrestling and Stardom. She's competed against some of the biggest names in the business including Giulia, Momo Wantanabe, and Mai Sakurai. She fits right in with AEW viewer base, who are familiar with the top Joshi and women's talent from around the world. Thekla adds some new blood into the division when it was in danger of losing momentum.
