All Elite Wrestling has a stacked roster of young and experienced performers. The women’s division is especially built with the future in mind, as there are several names looking to push their way to the top. One of those names is Anna Jay, a fine example of a “homegrown” talent. Additional news has come out about Jay’s contract status and what may be next for her as she sits in an interesting position.
Fightful Select provided an update to the report about Anna Jay’s contract status. In a December 24 report, Fightful stated that Jay’s contract is expected to end in Spring 2026. According to the report, there were hopes that Jay would be involved in the Women’s Blood & Guts match but that did not happen. Jay has not been on television since November 19 where she and Tay Melo were eliminated from the tournament to crown the inaugural AEW Women’s Tag Team Champions.
If Anna Jay’s time in All Elite Wrestling is truly up, it should be expected that she’ll have interest from other organizations.
“We have spoken to sources who indicate she’s open to exploring her options,” the Fightful report stated. “She does have connections in WWE and NXT, we’re told.”
Would Anna Jay in WWE work?
The idea of Anna Jay making the jump to WWE is an interesting discussion. At 27 years old, Jay has six years of experience under her belt. She’d undoubtedly get slotted on WWE NXT along with other performers like Ricky Saints, Blake Monroe, and Jordynne Grace. Each one of those names are performers who were well regarded in other companies, but seem stuck in the mud in NXT. Their popularity has waned and there’s real concern if WWE has any intention of using them in a strong fashion. Anna Jay would face a similar struggle, if not actually worse.
The big difference for Jay compared to those other names mentioned is that she doesn’t have the catalog of great matches as her peers. Jay has had moments that connected well with the AEW fanbase, but she does not have the resume of excellent matches that would elevate her to a higher plane. She doesn’t seem like a true “fit” of a performer who would be pushed well in WWE. She’d be just another name.
Yet, the other side of the coin doesn’t look so great either. If she stays in AEW, Anna Jay isn’t on the short list of names who fans expect to be a champion. In fact, the women’s tag team titles was perhaps the last shot for either her or Tay Melo to capture a championship in the company. So, there are limitations for her staying there as well - which makes sense that she’d be open to exploring her options.
The opportunity to test free agent waters is an important part of the wrestling business. Anna Jay should make the decision to test those waters to see what is next for her career, she deserves to know what other companies see as her value and make the most of her talents.
