On Thursday, November 20, Fightful Select reported that Anna Jay's AEW contract is expected to expire soon. Jay has been a big part of the women's division for a while, seen as a true example of a "home grown" AEW talent. It will be interesting to see what she decides to do at this point in her career.

According to Fightful's report, there's uncertainty around if talks to keep her in the promotion have started.

"As of now, we haven’t learned if there have been contract negotiations tied to extending her, but an AEW source did expect that AEW was going to make the move to retain her if possible," the report stated. The report also went a step further, noting that Jay's next moves may be hard to predict. "It was noted to Fightful that Anna Jay enjoys teaming with Tay Melo, but also is open to doing what’s right for her career, including exploring any potential free agency options."

At first mention, fans are going to point toward WWE as that potential free agency option. WWE is the biggest promotion in the business and a logical idea of a possibility for someone in Jay's position. However, there should be hesitation around that, with several questions about where she'd fit within the organization.

Anna Jay would certainly be someone who would fit in the WWE NXT system. She's still young at 27 and with six years of experience under her belt, she isn't a "rookie" in any sense of the word. However, she'd have to basically "start over" in the WWE system and that could be a daunting task. Jay is a performer that the AEW fanbase loved, but that doesn't immediately denote she's a strong worker bell-to-bell who would stand out in a world that features several young prospects and an established women's division across all three brands.

While she and Tay Melo were eliminated early in the women's tag team tournament, both ladies are cemented members of the AEW women's division. It would not be far off to see the fans getting behind them, especially after this report, in a way that could help push them to a tag title run and potentially more as singles performers.

Anna Jay is a solid part of the AEW women's division and someone fans have grown to love. Seeing her take the steps that are best for her career makes sense. But at first glance, AEW seems to be the promotion where she'd fit the most at this time.
