Carlito's time with the WWE is coming to an end. Reports broke on Sunday, June 1 that his contract will not be renewed, signaling his departure from the company. This came on the same day that R-Truth revealed similar news, sparking a massive amount of backlash online.
Mike Johnson of PW Insider broke the news.
"Similar to R-Truth, we are told that Carlito's current WWE deal will not be renewed and once it runs its course, he will be departing from the company."
Carlito was in the news just one day prior, as he won the WWC Puerto Rico Title from Ray Gonzalez at WWC Summer Madness 2025. This came at a time when he was seldom used in the ring, but more as a comedic act within The Judgement Day. His last in-ring performance for the WWE was during the 2025 Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royale.
Carlito's storied career spans more than 25 years, as he's performed across several of the top promotions in the business. He is most well-known for his two tenures in WWE, including this recent run that came as a surprise when he popped up in the Royal Rumble looking in fantastic shape. That landed him an appearance at WWE BackLash Puerto Rico, and from there he returned to the company in a secondary role, but was on television nearly weekly.
Fans express frustration with recent WWE cuts amid rising business success
The outcry from fans when R-Truth's release was announced is a continuance of anger toward WWE and its new parent company TKO. There are several changes happening with not only these roster cuts, but in other areas that aren't falling with with the viewerbase online.
For example, one viewer openly questioned why WWE no long commemorates periods like Black History Month or PRIDE Month which started on June 1. This is a similar practice for the other organization in TKO, as the UFC also stopped recognizing Black History Month in recent years.
Whether it is soaring ticket prices, an overemphasis on celebrities, counterprogramming All Elite Wrestling, or other issues, WWE continues to have a trying PR cylce post WrestleMania 41. Cutting popular performers like Carlito and R-Truth continues to shine a light on the business practices that Endeavor is known for in the mixed martial arts industry.
