Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, and CM Punk have been in each other’s orbit for way too long. Punk may have returned to WWE a little more than a year ago, these three men have a history more than a decade old. It will finally come to a head during WrestleMania 41 when they battle in a triple-threat match. On paper, each one has their case for winning, but CM Punk should be the favorite.
WrestleMania 41 is all about the biggest matches available and this one fits the bill. Roman Reigns versus CM Punk versus Seth Rollins is one of the biggest matches that WWE can make today, bringing together three of the most important names in the industry. It will be interesting to see which man comes out on top.
The winner will undoubtedly be the top man in line of a title shot and should be the number-one contender going forward. WWE has done a great job keeping each of them out of the title picture for the better part of a month, but once this match comes the winner needs to have gold on their mind.
Roman Reigns push to return to the Head of the Table
Roman Reigns held the WWE Universal Championship for 1316 days. He’d eventually become the Undisputed Champion when he captured the WWE Championship and held that one for 735. However, along the way, his story started to be about more than championship gold. It became about his family’s legacy and making sure he remained at the top of it. Fans debated whether the title was needed to tell that angle, and how much hard it was causing to keep the belt on him while the rest of the men’s division floundered.
Fast forward to 2025 and Reigns is still a central piece, but not the only big story being told. His story doesn’t need to be focused on being the top guy anymore, because even without a title he can still stake a claim to that spot. There’s more to tell with Reigns, particularly with a full-on angle between him and Seth Rollins. Expect that aspect of this match to play into what is next for them coming out of WrestleMania 41.
Seth Rollins is one of the pillars of WWE, but he’s not winning this match
Seth Rollins remains one of the most important performers in the WWE. The promotion has a stacked roster, but Rollins remains at the top when the company needs someone to lean on for a great match or program. He’ll be the workhorse in this contest, as the glue to hold everything together.
But when his star power is compared to that of Reigns and Punk, he doesn’t hold a candle to what they can bring in this version of WWE. The company is looking for box office names and box office moments. Seth Rollins will give the WWE Universe a five-star match whenever he can, which this will probably be, but he will not walk out of WrestleMania 41 with a victory over these two men.
CM Punk should be the favorite to take the win
CM Punk’s return has come off like a redemption tour of sorts. His exit in 2014 was one of the messiest situations at that time and led to a lot of angst for years. Is all that put behind him? Perhaps, but there are things that Punk still wants to achieve that relate directly to how things went down back then. One is main eventing WrestleMania and it looks like that is upon us.
Punk winning at WrestleMania 41 creates the most intrigue. He hasn’t been able to claw his way back to a title shot and rightfully so. It would be challenging to see WWE putting anyone over him with the title on the line. But with a win over Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins, there’s nowhere else for CM Punk to go other than a title shot. Whoever comes out of the card with titles, whether its Gunther, Jey Uso, John Cena, or Cody Rhodes, should all have to look over their shoulders to a big match and angle against CM Punk.
