Looks like the injury bug has hit the WWE once again and snatched another top name off the show. Thoughts about him aside, Dominik Mysterio has had a big 2025 and is set for a big run in the immediate future. On December 30, news broke that Mysterio has suffered a shoulder injury and is “out indefinitely.” The injury was confirmed on Monday Night Raw, and there’s no plans announced yet for both the WWE Intercontinental Championship and the AA Mega Champion. If WWE needs to call an audible with at least the Intercontinental Championship, this is an opportunity to create some buzz on the main roster.
As of this writing, there’s no word on how long Dominik Mysterio will be out of action. It’s a shock to the roster as he’s gained strong momentum throughout the year. He’s held the IC title for 235 days so far, and was expected to hold it much longer. Thanks to GUNTHER’s run with the title, the IC strap has become more valuable and that continued to be so with Mysterio holding it as well. WWE can use that value to build up another performer, and now is the time to do so.
Who could use the opportunity in the WWE mid card?
There are several names who come to mind when discussing who could step in if the title becomes vacant. Trick Williams has recently popped up on both Raw and SmackDown to herald himself as the next big free agent signing to come. Oba Femi is supposedly in line for a massive push after impressing main roster officials with his recent appearances. Even Chad Gable is rumored to be back to the main roster soon as he’s been out for an extended amount of time due to injury as well. Anyone one of those men could fit into the spot if given the chance to do so.
The midcard has an important position in the WWE. It is a space for new names to build themselves into main event threats and keep fans interested in several performers who are just outside the title picture. Dominik Mysterio has had a strong run with the WWE Intercontinental Championship, creating some entertaining moments. If his recent injury forces him out of action for an extended period of time, there are some great names on the roster ready to step in and continue to build that championship while gaining some much needed momentum of their own.
