Video games and professional wrestling are once again linked. Professional wrestling is firmly atop the cast list of the upcoming Street Fighter movie. Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes, and Hirooki Goto are all set to appear in the movie as Akuma, Guile, and E. Honda respectively. Reigns and Rhodes appeared alongside other members of the roster to drop the first look at the trailer and the reaction has been widely positive.

Multiple members of the cast appeared during The Game Awards to celebrate the release and even tease the cast of Mortal Kombat 2. The trailer was non-stop action, showing several of the stars fighting against each other and others in the clip. As of this writing, 15 hours have passed since the clip was posted on YouTube and it has amassed more than 700k views.

Roman Reigns, who was announced as Joe “Roman Reigns” Anoa’i, and Cody Rhodes both had something to say about the movie. Reigns also recently appeared in Zootopia 2 alongside another one of his WWE foils, CM Punk. While much wasn’t shown of Reigns as Akuma, Rhodes as Guile was active in the trailer, including the famed combing of the laptop and hitting a Flash Kick on Vega.

Goto, a recent IWGP World Heavyweight Champion, was not in attendance for the trailer reveal, but he was shown on screen as Sumo Yokozuna, E. Honda hitting his classic fighting pose.

While Street Fighter is known to be all about the tournament, this movie is set to follow more of a set story. Chun Li recruits Ken and Ryu to help her during the World Warrior Tournament where they’ll face each other and other top fighters. This is akin to the 90s Street Fighter movie starring Jean-Claude Van Damme where Guile did the same thing as the main character.

Street Fighter is set to release on October 16, 2026. For more news about Street Fighter and all things professional wrestling, stick to Daily DDT.
