Gunther will win the WWE Crown Jewel Championship
WWE is heading back to Saudi Arabia for the next iteration of Crown Jewel. The show is set for Saturday, November 2. The Saudi shows have always felt like “filler episodes” for those familiar with anime terminology. This year, WWE is trying something a bit different with the Crown Jewel Championship. The match between GUNTHER and Cody Rhodes is set and early favorites are that GUNTHER will be the one to hoist the prize over his head.
Gunther versus Cody Rhodes is one of those matches that was in Triple H’s back pocket. The men have an important history dating back to the last two editions of the Royal Rumble. Rhodes had to battle hard to get through Gunther both times while in the over-the-top match, but the two have yet to meet in a one-on-one affair. This match will answer the question, of who is the bigger star in WWE.
Cody Rhodes is the bigger star outside the ring. He’s the individual who helped move tickets since returning to the company, and his rise to the WWE Undisputed Championship has been one of the most covered stories, both in wrestling media, and within mainstream media. He’s a star and continues to deliver on that placement within the roster. Fans have raised concerns about his booking as a champion. There’s valid criticism there, for sure, as he continues to be mired in The Bloodline angle.
This is where Gunther stands ahead of Rhodes. Within the world of wrestling, Gunther may truly be the final boss of the industry. He could show up in any company today and be expected to walk away with the promotion’s biggest title. Since joining WWE NXT UK, Gunther has been the best-protected wrestler in the entire business. Fans expect him to win every match he’s in and that momentum will follow him when he heads over to Saudi Arabia to get a match against Cody Rhodes.
It will be interesting to see how this match is booked heading into it and how the winner is determined. Rhodes versus Gunther is a match that WWE can and should come back to, as all the history is there to tell. This is King Kong versus Godzilla. Two giants are forced to exist in similar spaces, but just far enough apart that they don’t face off often. But when they do meet, the wrestling world will be shaken by the outcome.
Gunther versus Cody Rhodes is a huge match, that’s an easy fact to proclaim. This is an opportunity to build to a long-term feud between the two and it will begin with Gunther getting the clean win at Crown Jewel.
