“Switchblade” Jay White hasn’t been on AEW television since September 2024. Fightful Select provided an update on the former IWGP Champion, and it looks like he’s set to miss more time as he deals with mounting injuries.

According to Fightful, Jay White is expected to be out for a while.

“Jay White has been out of action for the last several months with a hand injury that he sustained in a match against Kevin Knight,” Fightful reported in a statement. “However, those that we speak to haven’t heard that he’s close to a return.”

The report goes on to state that White is dealing with a shoulder injury, one that could potentially lead to surgery. There’s concern that he could miss the rest of the year.

This comes at a time when The Bang Bang Gang continues to struggle with injuries. Juice Robinson made a surprise return at AEW All In 2025, sporting a completely new look. The Gunns also returned that night to help Robinson, but in the days that followed, Colten Gunn was injured, and the team will now miss the tag team tournament going on in AEW.

Jay White’s AEW run hasn’t had the success many wanted to see

It has been a little more than two years since Jay White made the jump to AEW. It’s hard to state that this run has been a success. He’s suffered through injuries multiple times, with this being the latest issue.

Then there are the complaints about his booking within the promotion. Jay White has not held a singles championship since his time in New Japan and that’s surprising when looking at his skills and fans support. Along with the Gunns, he captured the ROH Six-Man Tag Team Titles and the AEW World Trios Championship, but those titles are an afterthought in the company. White has been involved in the main event scene but was never a true option to carry the AEW World Championship.

Before White signed with AEW there were reports that he was interested in WWE, and the company was interested in him. However, the hiring freeze that occurred right before the company sale put a halt to the signing. Fans have openly wondered how high he could have reached in WWE. There’s still speculation that the jump may happen at some point, but there isn’t a clear picture of how much time he has left on his AEW deal.

Jay White is a popular member of the AEW roster, and it is unfortunate to see him continuing to deal with injury. Daily DDT wishes him a speedy recovery.
