GUNTHER is a force in WWE. Since joining the company he’s been defeated by only a select few individuals including Bron Breakker, Sami Zayn, and Ilja Dragunov. He’s heading into WWE Crown Jewel to take on Cody Rhodes for the inaugural Crown Jewel Championship. Gunther is perhaps the real “final boss” of the men’s division. But there’s going to be a time for him to lose the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and John Cena will be the man to take it from him.

John Cena is hanging it up after 2025. His career deserves all the praise for what he’s done not only in the ring but outside of it as well. He’s become a superstar and will go on to great things as he shifts to the other opportunities that await. But before that comes, he is planning to partake in one year packed with in-ring action.

There’s speculation about whether Cena will hold a championship while heading into the sunset. This is important is because it would allow him to finally surpass Ric Flair for the most recognized world championship reigns. That’s an accolade that Cena deserves and it is one that will come at WrestleMania 41. To get there, Cena will win the 2025 Royal Rumble and will overcome Gunther to take the championship from around his waist.

Gunther versus John Cena is a major match. We won’t call it a “dream match” as that phrase is thrown around too often, but it is one of those matches that must be made when the opportunity presents itself. A build-up between the two from February through April would be an ordeal that would generate eyeballs and headlines. WrestleMania season is meant to be a time when the biggest matches with the biggest names are pushed to the forefront. It’s a position that Cena’s name deserves and one that Gunther would greatly benefit from as he stands as one of the prominent figures in the industry.

Cena winning the championship that night, preferably as the main event of Night Two, would be a perfect moment in this final year of performing. WrestleMania is a night when the company typically looks to “send fans home happy,” and what would be a better way to do that, than with Cena holding the title above his head?

Professional wrestling looks to manufacture big moments every week. The job is to build to the big moment that translates in the ring, making money every step along the way. John Cena’s career is coming to an end in 2025. One major moment to happen along the way is capturing the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and that will come with a victory over Gunther at WrestleMania 41.
