All Elite Wrestling is in the thick of the 2025 edition of the Owen Hart Cup Tournament. Every year, there’s a wild card who steps up to perform in either the men’s or women’s brackets. This year, it was none other than Josh Alexander making his AEW debut to take on “Hangman” Adam Page.

Josh Alexander had been rumored to be a part of AEW for weeks. Fightful Select reported that expectations were for him to arrive in AEW. That came to fruition during the April 16 episode. For 13 minutes, he and Page would battle to move on in the tournament. However, it was Page picking up the victory to step into the next stage.

Josh Alexander is a big signing for AEW

Free agency has certainly picked up in professional wrestling. Alexander’s move to AEW was one of several headlines this week, as other performers are leaving their staple promotion or potentially jumping to a new company.

With this signing, Tony Khan has secured a proven, main event performer. This man has held double-digit titles during his two decades in professional wrestling. This includes two reigns as the TNA World Champion, a run as the TNA X-Division Champion, and titles within independent promotions such as GCW. Alexander is an A+ player who can truly do it all.

Bringing him over to AEW creates some interesting matchups. For example, Wednesday’s match against Page was the first time that these two men ever competed against each other in a one-on-one match. Think about Alexander taking on individuals like Konosuke Takeshita, Kenny Omega, PAC, Jon Moxley and more. There’s a lot to be excited to see in the future.

Josh Alexander may not have been successful in his AEW debut, but fans should pay close attention to what comes next for him. Alexander is a title contender and one that should be near the top of the card for years to come.
