Picture it! It's 2018, and the YouTube show "Being The Elite" is at its peak. Wild and comedic scenarios involving The Young Bucks (Matt and Nick Jackson), Kenny Omega, Cody Rhodes, Hangman Adam Page, and many more illuminated the online wrestling landscape as they sought to stake their claim to the independent scene.
But one day on X, an unexpected interaction occurred between Kenny Omega and WWE Superstar Xavier Woods over the popular video game Street Fighter V. It got so much traction that it would lead to a six-man battle at E3 2018 between The New Day and Omega with the Jackson brothers. This fun interaction led wrestling fans to fantasy book a promotion-crossing in-ring battle between the two popular factions. However, sports entertainment was about to change at the hands of the independent superstars.
Once All Elite Wrestling (AEW) was founded with Omega and The Young Bucks at the helm with Cody Rhodes and billionaire Tony Khan, the likelihood of seeing that six-man tag team match became slim to none. Kenny went on to become a multi-time champion and executive vice president in a company that prides itself on being an ambitious alternative.
Over the past five years, Omega has found himself in the crosshairs of former friends and longtime rivals constantly. It could be argued that the man known as "The Cleaner" could benefit from a fresh coat of paint. As deals within the industry take shape every day, WWE could stand to make a huge move and offer Kenny Omega a monumental deal that could shake the landscape of wrestling.
The Shock of Kenny Omega's Presence
Remember the feeling of seeing AJ Styles make his unbelievable debut in the 2016 Royal Rumble? Remember being filled with energy at the return of the "American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania in 2022? And who could ever forget the way the Earth moved when CM Punk made his grand and shocking return to WWE after nearly ten years away?
Imagine watching SummerSlam: Night Two, and the main event is Cody Rhodes vs. John Cena for the WWE Championship. After both men fight tooth and nail to call themselves the top guy, Rhodes gets his title back. But his celebration does not last long due to the arrival of his former colleague and rival in Omega. This standoff would move mountains and shake the foundation of the MetLife Stadium. It would also cause a notable rift in the wrestling community for days.
Though Kenny being in WWE would be a polarizing decision for wrestling fans to come to terms with, it would add to the truth that sports entertainment and the goals of its stars can change on a whim and give us more to be intrigued by. Kenny Omega in WWE would be a trending topic, and it would give fans more of a reason to watch every week.
New Challengers and Renewed Rivalries
If Kenny Omega were to sign with WWE, the creative possibilities for stories and matches would be endless. The multi-time champion would have the chance to create a new version of himself while maintaining elements of the excellence that we have come to know him for. Omega could challenge young stars such as Bron Breakker, Je'Von Evans, Carmelo Hayes, Ilya Dragonov, and others to test himself against.
Plus, many of those young guns could hang their hat on the fact that they gave their all to take down a storied icon like Kenny. After his battles with the younger talent, a faction leader in the form of Finn Balor could see Kenny's main roster success as a threat and reignite their feud from New Japan Pro Wrestling. This would feed into Balor's crash-out era, and Kenny would gladly run it back with the man he once fought for prominent gold.
On the Blue Brand side, Omega could create a new faction with his former running buddies Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa. As they fight through the SmackDown roster, they could find their way to battle the biggest boss of them all: Roman Reigns. A feud involving Kenny Omega and Roman Reigns has main event status written all over it. Who wouldn't want to see two of the biggest stars in all of professional wrestling tear each other apart for the love of the game? Sign Kenny Omega, and the fans get magic.
Being The Solution to A Concern in Wrestling
The wrestling community has held differing opinions on the involvement of celebrities and streamers. Fans either understand it from a business and outreach perspective, while others feel that it steals chances from the athletes who dedicated their lives to the craft. Kenny Omega shared this concern in his most recent interview with friend and film producer Adi Shankar. He stated that wrestling "is headed down a path where a couple of WrestleManias down the road, the main event is gonna be Logan Paul and Mr. Beast, and it's like, what is their wrestling acumen? You know, how many miles have they put into it?"
Is it possible that Kenny Omega could be the solution to this growing issue? No one can deny his accomplishments, in and out of the ring. If he were in a match against Seth Freakin' Rollins, CM Punk, AJ Styles or Roman Reigns, either of those bouts could close out any night of WrestleMania. With his presence as a pure wrestler who worked his way to the top and became a pillar of a revolution, Omega could prevent the era of major celebrities seeking to spread their influence in another venture. It is not his sole responsibility, but Kenny being in WWE could be an example of hope for those who feel they have may not have a place due to not having a following outside of the ring.
Though wrestling has its ups and downs, it continues to be a world where impossible things happen every day. Though the current AEW International Champion was a part of creating an alternative promotion, he could decide to chart a new course for himself and lead a new revolution in WWE. Never say never.
