Professional wrestling has been known to create some excellent feuds throughout the years. Examples such as Shawn Michaels versus Bret Hart, John Cena versus Randy Orton, or Charlotte Flair versus Mercedes Mone come to mind. While AEW is just a few years old, it hasn’t created a generation feud quite yet. However, looking at its roster, there’s a potential feud that jumps off the page. Kyle Fletcher versus Konosuke Takeshita would be a game changer for years to come.
AEW has an extraordinary roster. There are several men and women in this group that fans go bonkers to see or talk about. Whether it is their hilarious characters or amazing in-ring work, it is easy to understand why there are so many beloved performers in this promotion.
When thinking about feuds for the future, Kyle Fletcher versus Konosuke Takeshita is an easy pick. They are two young and talented names on the roster. Takeshita is 30 years old, and since stepping into AEW he’s put his name on the map. Fletcher is 26 and has already stepped outside the shadow of Will Ospreay.
Right now, they are partners in the Don Callis Family, but anyone with an ounce of professional wrestling knowledge knows that stablemates can become the worst of enemies. Just look at the aforementioned feud between Rollins and Reigns as an example of this fact. A feud between Fletcher and Takeshita is probably quite a ways away, but do not be surprised if this is an eventual goal that has been discussed in AEW’s creative rooms.
Konosuke Takeshita versus Kyle Fletcher is a main event worthy feud
Takeshita and Fletcher are already recognized as two of the best in-ring performers in AEW. As of this writing, their match ratings on Cagematch sit at 9.36 and 8.14, respectively. To date, they’ve had two singles matches against each other, with Takeshita coming out on top both times. One of those matches is listed on the site and has a rating of 7.83, which is well above average. Pitting these two against each other is a sure bet that they would give fans a “Match of the Year” entry.
From a character standpoint, the angle should start around Callis rejecting one performer for the other. With both men in a similar position on the card, it’s a coin flip as to who would play that role in the angle, but either would work. Fletcher is better on the microphone, at least in English-speaking countries, so it would be interesting to see him play the big-time baby face. That’s a position that Takeshita was featured in when he first joined AEW, but he did not see him get any time as a main event attraction.
There are several men on AEW’s roster who could be seen carrying the AEW World Heavyweight Championship. As Tony Khan and the creative team look to the future, there’s one interesting feud that should be penciled in at some point. Konosuke Takeshita versus Kyle Fletcher has generational battle written all over it.
