The WWE women’s division suffered a big blow during the June 16 edition of Monday Night Raw. Liv Morgan suffered a dislocated shoulder during a match with Kairi Sane. After a takedown attempt, Morgan immediately rolled out of the ring, where doctors checked on her. After the commercial, Michael Cole and Corey Graves announced that Sane was the winner and that Morgan suffered the injury. This creates a huge hole at the top of the WWE women’s division.
Morgan is an important member of the women’s division. In the last few years, she’s pushed herself closer to the top, aiming to be in the same tier as women like Rhea Ripley and Bianca Belair. While some may criticize the angles she’s booked in by the creative team, it is hard to refute how much she’s improved both in the ring and as a character.
WWE Evolution 2 is coming up in a few weeks, and Morgan was expected to be a central figure in that PLE. There’s speculation that she was either going to take on IYO Sky for the WWE Women’s World Championship, or she was going to end up either against Nikki Bella or in a tag team match with Raquel Rodriguez against The Bella Twins. Regardless of which match was planned, either would have been a big moment for Morgan, who is growing into an important star for the WWE.
Morgan has suffered shoulder injuries in the past. In 2023, she had to deal with two shoulder injuries, the second of which was more significant, forcing her off television for six months. There’s no timetable for her return from this most recent battle with the injury bug.
Liv Morgan’s injury creates a void near the top of the WWE women’s division
With Liv Morgan injured, WWE will need to find someone who can step into her “position” as a top heel on WWE Raw. Roxanne Perez would be a perfect choice, as she certainly can work in the ring and has shown that her character work as a heel is strong as well. The angle fits into what they were currently doing, with Perez being an unwelcome addition to The Judgment Day. This could even play into angles with Raquel Rodriguez and Dominick Mysterio, impacting the trajectory of their current characters. Imagine Perez wanting to step in as a tag team champion while Morgan is injured. The angle basically writes itself.
No one wants to see a performer go down with an injury. Liv Morgan has dealt with several shoulder issues over the years, and hopefully, this one will not make matters worse. WWE needs to use this as an opportunity to build another star in the division, while creating an opening for a big return if and when the time is right for Liv Morgan.
