Looks like it is time to witness Bill Goldberg’s final run. Bodyslam.net reported that the former champion is scheduled for the June 16 edition of WWE Monday Night Raw and his target will be none other than new WWE World Heavyweight Champion, GUNTHER.
“Viper Reports and Bodyslam.Net have learned that WWE Hall of Famer Bill Goldberg is reportedly planned ot make his return next week on WWE Raw,” Cory Hays of Bodyslam.Net posted on Twitter. “It’s expected that he will be coming after World Heavyweight Champion Gunther.”

This makes sense as it falls in line with what has been reported in recent weeks. Goldberg, 58, is looking to wrap of up in-ring career. In November he announced his plans to retire in 2025. Since then, Fightful Select reported that a match between Goldberg and Gunther is “on the table.” It looks like that table is now made and set.
Goldberg and Gunther had a run in back at WWE Bad Blood. Gunther took shots at the former champion, causing him to jump the barricade and the two men to have to be separated. From that point forward, it was pretty much assumed that the two men would face off in the ring at some point.
Gunther versus Bill Goldberg is an easy feud to get the latter to retirement
Gunther’s stunning win over Jey Uso on WWE Raw makes more sense, as it easily opens the door for Goldberg to slide into yet another title opportunity. However, do not expect many to be excited about it. Goldberg has been in this position before, cutting out the momentum of performers like Bray Wyatt, Bobby Lashley, and Kevin Owens. Do not expect him to get a win over Gunther, but he has no business being anywhere near the title picture.
Many point to the grand sendoff that Sting received in AEW as the catalyst for this and other performers looking to go out on a high note. Goldberg was certainly a major part of the Monday Night Wars, but a lot has changed since the nearly thirty years between now and that time period in wrestling.
Fans will certainly complain that Goldberg is taking a spot that should be for someone much more deserving and that’s a fact. At 58 years old, there’s not much else he needs to do in the ring. Three years have passed since his last match, and he’s wrestled in six matches in the last five years. Goldberg was never much of a great in-ring performer, but he’s even more limited at this point.
Plus, there will be many who point to Gunther having another championship run starting out with a dud. When he was the Intercontinental Champion, Gunther was seen as a “final boss” type of character in WWE. Since taking the World Heavyweight Championship, that level of aura hasn’t followed him. Instead of being the pure wrestler looking to be the best, he’s become more of a sports entertainment caricature of himself. Not the man that fans want to see.
Still, it looks like Bill Goldberg’s final run is underway. He’ll be back on Monday Night Raw and involved heavily over the next month as the show prepares to head to Atlanta for a big PLE weekend. Here’s to hoping WWE finds a way to make this entertaining, because the title picture in the men’s division sorely needs it.
