Mariah May has been one of the hottest talking points in professional wrestling for much of the last year. First, it was her amazing angle with Toni Storm that ended in the Hollywood Ending at AEW Revolution 2025. After that, rumors of her potential departure or re-signing with AEW continued to surge. Looks like all that is over as she's expected to head to WWE after several media reports.

Mike Johnson of PW Insider first reported the news on Friday, May 30.

"Mariah May was removed from the AEW website this afternoon, which usually means someone has departed the company and is free and clear to go elseswhere. We can confirm that we've heard from WWE sources that she's expected to start there in the near future."

Fightful Select confirmed the report as well.

"May's two-year contract with AEW is expected to expire and she will be effectively done with the company. There have been no substaintial creative plans for since since the Hollywood Ending, and we're told that most in the company expected her to move on to WWE."

As of this writing, there has been no mention or hints of May or any new signings making the jump to WWE. But several names have moved from AEW to WWE in recent months including Ethan Page, Ricky Saints, Aleister Black, and Rusev. Maiah May would join Jade Cargill as the biggest names in the women's division to make that move.

Mariah May in WWE: Will it work?

Mariah May moving from AEW to WWE is an important development for a variety of reasons. There's hope she was able to secure the biggest contract for herself, which is always key in organizations where independent contractors do not carry much of the power. Fightful also reported that May has obtained representation for "other ventures" so it sounds like she's looking to expand her presence via other opportunities. That's an important benefit for performers in an industry like professional wrestling.

The real question is will Mariah May work in WWE? It's a difficult, but fair question to ask. May's time in AEW was seen as a success from start. She was immediately paired with Storm and together they told a story that had the perfect ending. May won major matches and secured the most important title in the company. Their match at AEW Revolution was the right way to end her time with the company, even if they were looking to bring her back. Everything about it worked.

WWE does not book the same way AEW does, especially not in the women's division. The women's roster is packed with ladies who are superstars and some who are great complimentary workers. Names like Rhea Ripley, Bianca Belair, and Becky Lynch carry the industry in the same way as their males peers. But the women's division struggles because they do not get the same type of storyline development as the men.

It is rare that the women's division gets a fleshed out storyline outside the main titles. There are even times when the top titles on the main roster have question booking around them. Where AEW fails to feature more women's matches on its main shows, WWE fails at giving women the same level of stories as the men's division.

Bringing this back to Mariah May, she's shown that she can be involved in a major angle and carry it along side a strong dance partner. Will she be "exposed" in WWE's booking or will her presence be a step in the company giving the women more space to thrive just like the men? This is the question that will be answered once she arrives and is positioned in a roster that features several big names.

Mariah May is reportedly heading to WWE. With Evolution 2 on the horizon in July, that would be a great place to debut her as all eyes will be on the women's division. She has the talent to be a featured player, but questions abound. Either way, there is certainly interest in seeing what she does in WWE.
