All Elite Wrestling looks to be picking up one of the most important free agents on the market. Fightful Select and Andrew Zarian reported that Mercedes Mone is expected to appear in AEW this March. That’s a massive deal for both that promotion and wrestling fans, as Mone is one of the most sought-after names in the industry. Looking ahead, several names jump off the page as potential opponents for the former champion. These are three that should be near the top of the list.

Hikaru Shida

Hikaru Shida may be the most important woman on the AEW roster since the company’s inception. She’s one that they can and have gone back to multiple times when the organization needs a “reset” within the women’s division. While some may consider that a bit disrespectful to Shida as a performer, it makes sense as to why the company trusts her so much. With that in mind, it makes perfect sense that she’d be the woman to welcome Mone into the fold. Shida and Mone have never competed against each other, and that match alone could easily headline an episode of either AEW Dynamite or Collision.

ATHENA

Mercedes Mone and ATHENA have shared a ring, back when the two women were a part of WWE. But it is interesting to note that Mone and ATHENA have never had a singles match against each other. ATHENA’s performance in AEW has been among the best in the wrestling industry – with many outlets highlighting her as the best of 2023. Allowing her and Mercedes Mone to stand off in a long-term feud would be the perfect way to introduce both women to the AEW Universe in 2024.

Serena Deeb

Mercedes Mone is an excellent technical wrestler. Her move set is diverse, showing both her range and love for professional wrestling. Serena Deeb is finally back on AEW programming and reminding everyone why she is known as “The Professor.” The story can be set in that Deeb is “angry” at AEW for rolling out the red carpet for Mone while she’s been there the whole time. Let these two cook for at least a month on end after that and watch the match ratings climb.
