5 best theme songs in WWE
Professional wrestling and sports entertainment are built on moments. The highs and lows that build up fantastic in-ring spectacles are what fans tune in for week after week. There’s an important element to that spectacle that occurs before the first lock-up. Theme music holds a powerful place in the industry and when done right, it can make things so much better.
Thanks to Def Rebel, WWE is going through a low point when it comes to iconic theme music that moves fans. Each week there seems to be a new complaint about the boring and unrecognizable music that is used for so many performers on the roster. However, there are still some excellent standouts when it comes to theme music in WWE. These are the five best current theme songs on WWE Raw and SmackDown.
Randy Orton
Randy Orton has had a slew of classic theme songs during his tenure in WWE. Both Burn In My Light and Voices capture who Orton has been as a character every step of the way. Voices is another of those popular songs that fans have started singing whenever they hear it in an arena. Over the years, Voices has become more than just a song, but a key part of Orton’s character, elevating it to a new level when compared to the others.
Cody Rhodes
Kingdom has been Cody Rhodes’s theme song for years, long before his return to WWE. It is almost hilarious how the lyrics fit Rhodes’s persona of being a great guy both in and out of the ring. While it fits best when he’s playing the babyface, it’s understandable how his theme would work if he’s a heel as well. Either way, it gets fans to their feet as they sing at the top of their lungs, welcoming in one of the biggest stars in professional wrestling.
Gunther
Everything about Gunther screams intensity. That includes his theme. While Symphony No 9 was a great theme song for his character, the WWE tune fits well. Beginning with his name in the deep horns fits the announcement of a brooding, dangerous character. In many ways, Gunther presents himself as the big bad guy at the end of a movie or video game, so his theme elicits such weight behind it. It sounds just like a theme that would be playing during a big final battle, which is why it works for how Gunther has been presented during his WWE run.
Carmelo Hayes
It doesn’t matter if Carmelo Hayes is playing the role of a babyface or a heel, his character exudes a level of confidence that teeters so close to arrogance. Hayes plays that role perfectly, delivering on that through his promos and in-ring work. His theme music puts a perfect hat on his entire presentation. It’s “simple” but everything about it makes it clear that he passionately believes he’s the best in the business. The song gives a hint of royalty which is exactly where Hayes sees himself when compared to his peers.
Seth Rollins
Seth Rollins’s latest iteration of this theme song is the best he’s had to date. What started as a joke of Rollins leading a church choir, has now become the focal point of his theme song. There was an odd point where some critics claimed that Rollins's character was nothing more than a theme song, but those criticisms fell where they belonged, on deaf ears. Rollins’s theme not only introduces one of the most important figures on the roster but also signals to fans that something important is about to happen.
