Dalton Castle is doing some of the best work across professional wrestling

Wrestling fans may have their eyes fixated on WWE or AEW content, but those not watching Ring of Honor are missing out on some of the best performances happening in the industry. Athena is one of those names, but another is Dalton Castle. He’s embodied everything about not only wrestling but sports entertainment in a way that works for everyone’s enjoyment.

Listen, it is OK to not enjoy sports entertainment. If the combat sports aspect of professional wrestling gets you in the seat or in front of the television, that’s fantastic. Sports entertainment also does it for others. Usually, those who enjoy wacky or compelling television. Regardless of where you fall on the spectrum, Castle scratches that itch.

Castle is currently involved in an angle against Johnny TV. Yes, Johnny Mundo, Johnny Impact, John Morrison, or whatever else you want to call him. Mundo cost Castle the ROH World Television Title and now Castle’s life has spiraled out of control. Everything from his promos, entrances, physical appearance, and his abilities in the ring are impacted. The coffee cup is a perfect touch.

For many casual or mainstream wrestling fans, Castle may not be a recognizable guy. With 15 years of experience in the space, he’s spent all his career in organizations like Ring of Honor, NJPW, PCW, RPW, and others. His 2022 appearance in AEW was the first time that many saw the talented performer in all his glory. He’s held multiple championships, with the majority of those reigns coming in Ring of Honor.

Castle is a fantastic amalgamation of David Bowie and “Macho Man” Randy Savage. With every opportunity sent his way, he succeeds in getting you enthralled with his character. Then, he goes out there and his in-ring abilities match the character development. While injuries have plagued portions of his career, Castle can still put on a fantastic match from bell to bell. Look back at his match against Chris Jericho from 2022, or his performance in the six-way elimination match earlier this year as examples.

Professional wrestling is meant to be fun. While there’s a lot to complain about across the industry, Dalton Castle is one of the bright spots. Checking out his work on Ring of Honor each week should be on every wrestling fan's checklist.
