Jey Uso will win the WWE Intercontinental Title Tournament
The WWE Intercontinental Tournament is set to kick off on the August 26 edition of WWE Monday Night Raw. The full field has yet to be announced, but one of the names taking part will be Jey Uso. The multiple-time tag team champion is mega-over with the fans, and there’s still hope that he’ll pick up his first singles championship. Well, everyone involved should brace themselves because while he’s a favorite to win the tournament, he won’t bring home the title.
Online discourse about Jey Uso is as interesting as discourse can be within the IWC. On one hand, there’s tangible visual proof that Uso is over with the fans. His ring entrances get massive interactions, and fans love his call-and-response promo style.
But at the same time, those are the two points that are quickly used to discredit him. The character development that was bristling during the start of his angle with Roman Reigns years ago seems all but gone. What some praise for the big fan response, others discredit as in their eyes, he’s been marginalized to the phrase “Yeet.” Understandable concerns, but all to consider when it comes to predicting how this tournament will play out.
Bron Breakker is one of the big pieces WWE has in play for the future of the company. He looks the part. Performs the part. He has all the makings of a sports entertainment superstar. Putting the IC title on him was the right move and it will be a move that will help vault him into title contention. Breakker could very well get a similar run with the championship as GUNTHER did for nearly two years before him. Breakker won’t hold the belt for 666 days, but he will certainly come out of this run looking like a massive threat to anyone standing in his way.
In order to get there, Breakker will have to defeat Jey Uso. There’s no other way around it. Uso will be the biggest name in the tournament and he’ll have great matches along the way to victory. But it wouldn’t make any sense for him to be the man to defeat Breakker. Both individuals are heading in separate directions, even if this will lead to a short crossover in their paths. Uso has bigger things to do and they involve his brothers, cousin, and “family” over on WWE SmackDown.
The WWE Intercontinental Title Tournament will be a fun sprint. Some great matches are about to go down on WWE programming in the next few weeks. But prepare yourself in advance. Jey Uso will win the bracket, but he’s going to be the next top star to get crushed by Bron Breakker. This is the way.
